Morning Light

Brigitte wakes up in her bed, cuddling Mitzi. Her eyes stay closed, but she can feel the world around her. She’s at her home in Gibraltar, cuddling her best friend in the whole world. She must have stayed the night after dinner instead of going back to base. Papa and Mama are probably downstairs fixing breakfast for her and her seven siblings. Mitzi adjusted her arms and pulled the blanket around herself, snuggling back against Brigitte. That was what brought Brigitte to reality; Mitzi didn’t like being covered up. Oh, and she didn’t have arms.
Brigitte cracked one eye to see the Hana Song, internet sensation D.Va, cuddled up next to her in bed. Blushing bright red, Brigitte pretended to be asleep still. What happened? Oh fuck, did she fall asleep and hold Hana hostage in bed? Mama always said Brigitte was an ’aggressive cuddler’. Would Hana be mad? Would she hate her? She just forced a celebrity to cuddle with her all night. Hana would probably be mad.
Opening one eye back up, Brigitte peeped at Hana. She was still asleep, a blissful smile on her face. She was pressed completely up against Brigitte, with Brigitte’s arm (which she has been scared to move) draped over her. All in all, she seemed very content. Maybe even happy. Well, perhaps Hana wouldn’t be that mad. Brigitte took advantage of Hana’s condition to really look at her. Her features were very soft, her cheeks always slightly red. She looked like an angel sent down to Earth to grace the world with amazing streaming content. Fuck, Brigitte had to get this crush under control. But that was a future Brigitte problem; for now, she closed her eyes, enjoying snuggling with Hana.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hana awoke to a thin line of sunlight finally hitting her eye. She stretched her arms out in front of her and arched her back. That was the best sleep she had had in like... ever. She was well rested, warm, and the dreams didn’t come at all last night. ”God, that was the first night the nightmares didn’t wake me up in years,” Hana said out loud. ”Nightmares?” A voice from behind Hana asked. All the blood drained from her face as realization hit her like a truck.
She turned to see Brigitte looking at her, concern painted on her features. Hana opened her mouth and shut it several times. Fuck. Fuck. FUCK. She had fallen asleep in Brigitte’s bed. She remembered NOW, of course. How was she going to play this off? How-
”Hana? Are you okay?” Brigitte asked. ”I think I accidentally forced you cuddle with me last night... I am so sorry, Hana. I didn’t mean t-” ”No need to apologize, I slept great,” Hana said, the color beginning to come back to her face. Maybe they would just ignore what Hana just said. ”Did you say you had nightmares, like, every night?” Brigitte asked, sitting up. Maybe they won’t just act like Hana said that. ”Um... yeah I do sometimes. But it’s nothing serious, just some bad dreams,” Hana said. Brigitte still looked concerned. ”I’m sorry to hear that, Hana. You know,” Brigitte said, a vulnerable look on her face. ”I’m here if you want to talk about anything. I know we’ve only known each other a little while, but I really do care about you.”
Hana looked at Brigitte in the face. Until now, she had been avoiding her eyes, scared of what she’d see there. But when Hana looked, she saw nothing but acceptance there. ”Thank you,” Hana said. ”I mean it. I was worried you’d think I was weak or a freak or something.” Brigitte looked very upset at that. ”Hana, you are an amazing person, and nightmares do not make you a freak. Besides, I could understand the nightmares; you were drafted into the Korean military at, like, 17. You were a child soldier, who the country expected to be one of its sole defenders against incredible odds. Your life hasn’t been easy. It’s okay to not be okay,” Brigitte said. Hana’s eyes had started to water while she was talking.
”I...” Hana started, but had to take a second to collect herself. ”I- thank you. Outside of Dae-Hyun, it feels like no one sees me. Not as me, anyway. They see D.Va, the fearless defender who can take anything, the cocky internet sensation. No one sees Hana Song, and if they did, no one would like her.” Brigitte hesitantly grabs Hana’s hand. ”I think Hana is a great person. Someone who is absolutely amazing and deserves all the love the world has to offer. And I’m so grateful I got the chance to meet her,” she said. Hana smiled. ”So... nightmares?” Brigitte asked. Hana sighed, looking away again. ”Yeah, I see a lot of... unpleasant things from my past. It’s nothing, really.” ”It’s something,” Brigitte says, upset again. ”It sounds like PTSD, Hana. You’ve been through a lot. Do not ever brush that off like that. Do not push your feelings down like they don’t matter. And if your dreams ever ruin your sleep, please come to me if you need me. I’m here for you. Plus... I love to cuddle,” Brigitte says, blushing.
Hana hopes she can play her blush off as embarrassment. ”I don’t have much experience, but you’re pretty good at it,” she jokes, hoping to move on to a new topic. Before they could continue their conversation, a loud German voice sounded in the hallway. ”BRIGITTE! Are you awake? We shall meet in ze gym in ten minutes!” it yelled. Brigitte sighed. ”Well, we can cuddle anytime you want. I have to meet Reinhardt in the gym or he’ll bust in here and drag me out of bed. I wouldn’t want you to have to see that. We can hang out after the briefing at 10? If you wanted to, that is.” ”I’d love to,” Hana said.
