her duty

the sounds of the cold rain tapping against the windows was the only sound that can be heard as moon shined through the windows. there was a thunderstorm happening tonight, you were afraid of them. yes, anyone would call this a childish fear to have, but you have your reasons. which is how you find yourself completely covered in blankets, shaking, and crying. you’re terrified, but you wouldn’t want to bother your girlfriend. not when she deserves this rest. not when she does so much for you. you wouldn’t want to be a burden, so you simply choose to suffer in silence. the thunder’s not getting any better either. you can feel the strong booms shaking your home. you can’t help but cry into your pillow even more. you gaze over at your girlfriend, sleeping so soundly. but before you could even think about admiring her more, you’re interrupted by another loud crack of thunder. you nuzzle yourself into cinnabar’s chest before you feel a slight shift in body weight from your partner. you’ve woken her up with your constant moving. it’s dark, but you can make out her lavender eyes through the darkness. your silent sobs are still present as cinnabar quickly picks up on your saddened state. she could feel you crying on top of her. without hesitation, she immediately speaks. "hey, darling, are you okay? talk to me." she says. her attention has immediately be focused on you. she pulls you up into her lap and gently pulls you into her. but before you could answer and after hearing another boom of the thunder. she could tell what you were crying about. "is it the thunder?" she asks. you were still crying. you couldn’t really talk, you were just crying so much. you silently nodded while your head was still tucked in her chest. she felt it, upon that, she began to speak. "you’re safe, alright? i’m here, okay?" she said in soft whispers to try and soothe you, it’s working. the gentleness of her voice is blocking out all of the noises outside. the way she’s being so gentle with you has you feeling so comforted. her gentle tone is the only thing your mind is focused on, but before you could have more thoughts about her tone. she speaks again. "do you need anything, love? I can get you a drink if that’ll clear your mind." your crying has slowed down, not stopped, but slowed down. you can speak now. "I’d like that, cinna." you say. you haven’t raised your head from her chest yet. it’s pretty comfortable here. (hah) she gently lets you go and makes sure you’re comfortable before going to get you a drink.

you’re truly grateful to have someone like her, aren’t you?
