Chapter 1
Yellow shoes stood uncomfortably on the pebbled road as a figure stood in front of a tall- terrifying building. Beside the figure was a smaller one and a much smaller one. Both having spots and patches of scales and colorful skin here and there.
The smaller silhouettes were Sprig and Polly Boonchuy-Plantar, Anne's younger siblings. Both had orange hair. Sprig had pink spots and patches unlike Polly who had purple ones. Polly's hair was wild unlike Sprig's that was hidden under a hat with goggles. The two of them had sunkissed skin and the same brown eyes as Anne.
Anne however didn't have spots or scales. In fact she was a human. Which was kinda hard to believe. A human. Attending Saint James Academy. First in the history if she could recall correctly.
Her family tree is a little confusing. Her grandfather Hopadiah had a daughter named Fern and a son-in-law named Dew. When their son was five and their daughter was recently born, both unfortunately passed away. A woman and man who owned a restaurant meet Sprig when he was seven. Their child proudly showing him off, claiming to be a 'new best friend'. Even though the couple only saw the boy randomly throughout the month they quickly grew attached. They couple soon meet his grandfather and was quick to find out about the boys unfortunately death of his parents. It didn't take to long for them to grow close to the grandfather and the boys sister before adopting the children and making the grandfather feel like he had children again.
Hop pop, a man with little hair left, slightly taller than Sprig having orange spots and patches, placed his hand on Anne's shoulder. "Come on Anne it's not going to be that bad. And if you need me you'll be able to find me in my classroom." Hop pop was a teacher in the school, teaching something that Anne couldn't remember at the moment. But she knew that it definitely had something to do with plants. As that was the family's speciality.
With a long sigh Anne lifted her head and looked straight ahead. "Yeah, not that bad." Sprig, Polly and Anne had luggage in their arms, the younger siblings volunteered to help Anne move in. It was a win win Anne didn't need to carry much and she wouldn't get lost as Spring and Polly also attend here and had very quickly agreed to be her tour guide.
Finally moving forward Sprig let out a sound of celebration as the family got through to his sister. While being more of a pushover she could be really stubborn at times. The Boonchuy-Plantar walked into the school, very slowly as Anne was eyeing everything. She felt like she finally got accepted into Hogwarts. Which wasn't exactly a dream. She had a fear of owls.
"Okay I need to part so I can a teach my class. Kids please take Anne to the headmasters office and if any of y'all need me I'll be in the greenhouse. Boy, keep an eye on Polly." Hop pop stated earning a "hey!" From Polly as he left. A series of "bye Hop pop" and "see ya HP" rang out before the now trio decided to keep moving.
The walk to the headmasters office involved more walking and a shit tone more stairs than Anne was comfortable with. the only stairs she ever had to walk was the second floor of their farm house and the stairs to the basement (a.k.a her room). By the time the trio got to the floor that held then headmaster office the girl was out of breath.
"Anne, we live on a farm. And- you play tennis! How are you out of breath woman?!" Asked Polly in a judgemental voice as she saw her sister all but crumble in front of her and her brother. A few wheezes later Anne was no longer hunched over and reallying on her knees to keep her up. "Yes! But at my old school we didn't have thirty flights of stairs!" Anne defended herself as she now tiredly marched to the office. "That's was five Anne-" Sprig was silenced by a folded piece of paper thrown at him, "hey! No throwies!"
Polly groaned and put Anne belongs down that she was carrying. Sprig and Anne copied putting all of Anne's things by the door so they could pick them up later. They were now facing a door with the words 'Headmaster Wu' engraved on a plack. Anne stood in front of the door, her anxiety getting the better of her. Polly noticed and knocked for her.
"Come in."
Walking in the siblings were meet with a rather- small human- Newt hybrid. She was around the same height as Sprig 5'2, she had light blue spots and patches on her skin and a rather large light blue tall. She sat in a chair behind a desk with a plate name 'Olivia Wu' on it.
"Ah Miss Boonchuy-Plantar! It's a pleasure to finally be in your presence." Anne shot a look at Sprig wondering why she spoke so- fancy. Sprig mouthed 'later' earning a nod from Anne. "All of you are welcome to sit." Olivia gestured to the two chairs and stool in for the of her desk. The Boonchuy-Plantar each took a seat, Anne setting in the stool between the chairs, Polly on her right and Sprig on her left.
"I'm Olivia Wu, though I do prefer you address me as headmaster Wu, I hope you aren't as much of a trouble maker as your siblings." Olivia silently prayed.
Polly had set the dorm wings on fire three separate times in the past semester and Sprig had lead more than a handful of dangerous animals. So when when one of her trusty teachers, Mr. Plantar had asked her if an other one of his grandchildren could maybe, possibly join the schools program Olivia was more than reluctant.
But she couldn't refuse him. He was the best teacher the school had. Having years of experience with plants he was able to simplify answers to most questions. He also encourage his students to partake in theatre or something similar, claiming how the acting skill they'll earn will be more than useful later in life with the supernatural abilities the students posse.
And much like his grandchildren the two continued to shock her as much as she regrets to say. Olivia knew from personal experience that Polly's smarts was something that needed encouragement. Someone to keep pushing her mind to the limits. Sprig is a adventurous boy. Fascinated with anything dead or living. History and land. Olivia was sure he would find something about this world that would shock people.
As much as she dreads waking up every morning knowing that one of those hell spawn of children will appear in office by the end of the day, she knows her heart will break when they leave.
So, what was an other one to add to the pile of skills?
Anne cracked a small smile, her anxiety now fading as Olivia's voice was warm and welcoming. "Hey! The part that was sold to me was faulty! How was I supposed to know that?!" Polly whined throwing her hands into the air. She didn't meant to explode the court yard! How was it her fault that the new part that was specifically made for her robot exploded?
Her whines were cut short as a pebble hit the side of her face. Turning to the side she saw Sprig with his sling shot pointed at her. Before the two could do anything Anne grabbed the sling shot and pocketed it in her worn, yellow jacket. So the two opted for death glares instead. "Yeah sorry about that, they'll all about fighting." The older Plantar stated.
Olivia smiled at Anne, grateful that she had more manners then her siblings"I do hope that your stay here will be comforting, if not my door is always opened. Now I see that your parents weren't here to drop you off yes?" Anne nodded, Thai Go was extremely full and having only three people on staff is hard. Well more like two and a half. Ned, as much as the family loves him, was a handful.
"Very well. Parents week is in the next two weeks so they may visit you then." Anne nodded once again, Olivia clapped her hands "alright! That's all to cover, here is your schedule." She said having Anne a piece of paper, "your siblings know the dress code and the uniform office so you may pick yours up on the way to your dorm. Which is in Wartwood Hall number forty two, a dog tag is connected to your key which states your roommates names as well as your hall name."
Anne was handed a key with the number forty two graved on it. "You can always ask for a replacement if you misplace it." And with that Anne stood up smiling widely. "Thank you so much headmaster Wu, I really can't promise that I won't be as worse as my siblings, but! I'll actually put in effort." Olivia smiled once again before waving the Plantar's off with her hand.
Sprig and Polly stood up before walking out of the door, Anne following behind. Before she could walk out of the door Olivia's voice was caught in her ears once again. "I hope you in joy your stay Miss Boonchuy-Plantar." Then the door shut.
