Enid's heart pounded in her chest, looking around for her roommate, her friend. adrenaline still rushed through her veins, likely being the only reason she was still up and moving, having lost large amounts of blood in her fight against the Hyde. despite this, she could hardly bring herself to focus on the injuries gained, fear and worry racing through her mind as Wednesday was nowhere to be found in the crowd of nevermore students. she could feel eyes piercing into her skin, the pity laced daggers digging deep into her wounds.
"where's Wednesday?" she asked, searching, asking for any indication that she was ok, that she was safe. her question was not rewarded with an answer. Xavier and Kent hesitantly shared a look, as did Yoko and Divana. even ajax just seemed to look on. this wasn't right. she stepped away from ajax, forcing herself to stand without the help of another and she looked at them all. pity, sympathy, evident in the way they looked at her. her eyes were drawn away from the nightshades as she noticed movement exiting the school. she moved forward, hope blooming in her chest, straining her eyes against the darkness for any sign that Wednesday was within the three shadows was approaching, and there was. and in that moment, Enid completely forgot about the ache in her legs, her walk turning to a run as she led the way toward the three figures. she had only figured out the identity of one, though that was all that mattered to her. lurching forward she practically fell into the other girl's arms, tears running down her cheeks. she was pushed back slightly, Wednesday's eyes boring into her own. she could feel the way they searched her face, staring at the blood and dirt which seemed to cover every inch of her. there was a softness in Wednesday's eyes. a part of her knew she should apologize for hugging the girl, all while knowing her aversion to physical touch, but she didn't get the chance as Wednesday pulled her back in. she all but shoved her face into the shorter girl's shoulder, a sense of happiness blossoming in her chest as she felt the other girl do the same. she knew everyone was staring, but she couldn't really bring herself to care.
she could hear Bianca talk to Wednesday briefly, though she couldn't focus on the words being said, it seemed the blood loss was finally catching up to her. a fact that Wednesday seemed to notice as well, though she was unsure how. she has pushed back again slightly, stern eyes meeting hers. Wednesday's mouth opened and closed a few times, slightly resembling a gasping fish, before snapping shut with a determined look on her face. maybe if Enid was in a better state, she would've noticed she was being dragged immediately, rather than five seconds later. the eyes of everyone else staring after them as the faint sound of Bianca shouting orders met her ears. she quickly managed to grab her bearing just enough to be walking along with Wednesday, though the girl still hadn't let go of the rough grip around Enid's wrist, not that Enid was complaining. as she was helped up the staircase, she realized that Wednesday was not taking her to the infirmary, rather, they were walking up to the dorm. uncertainty started to fill her heart. she was already beginning to feel the pain of her injuries return as the adrenaline had worn off, she had hope that she would be taken somewhere where she would be given painkillers and the medical treatment needed. they finally reached the door to their room, Wednesday practically pulled Enid into the room before finally speaking.
"Thing, go grab a washcloth a soak it in warm water. Sinclair, go with Thing while I grab my stitching kit." Enid turned to the severed hand, having not previously noticed him riding atop Wednesday's shoulder. she became so focused him that she almost missed Wednesday mentioning the stitching kit. it didn't take much thought to believe that Wednesday had decided to stitch Enid up herself.
"Woah, Wednesday, I trust you and all, but shouldn't a trained professional be the one doing this?" she managed to stutter out. she was met with a blank stare, which, if examined closely enough, was laced with a small amount of confusion.
"Thing and I are trained professionals." was all she answered before walking over to her bed and searching below. Thing basically ushered Enid into the bathroom and instructed her to sit on the floor, all the while he did as Wednesday had instructed him. it didn't take long for Wednesday to join them in the bathroom, a small box in hand. it was placed off to the side as she grabbed the now-soaked cloth from Thing, kneeling down so that she was at eye level with Enid. the cloth was pressed up against her face, water dripping down her cheek as the other girl became to scrub away the dried dirt and blood. now sitting down and slightly more relaxed, Enid found herself finally able to focus on things, the first being the dark red blood that had seemingly dried on Wednesday's forehead. she was about to bring it up until she found herself distracted by the cloth being rubbed over one of her open wounds. a sound similar to that of a whimper escaped her mouth, causing Wednesday to tilt her head slightly.
"Apologies, I'll be softer around that part," she spoke softly, staring at Enid with the same soft look which examined her injuries earlier. she wasn't used to the soft way Wednesday stared at her; the only other time Enid could name where a similar softness took place in the Addams's eyes was when Wednesday was getting expelled.
"The mark you've left on me is indelible. anytime I grow nauseous at the sight of a rainbow or hear a pop song that makes my ears bleed, I'll think of you."
Enid did have to look up what indelible meant after Wednesday had left, but in her weird, Wednesday way, that was probably the nicest thing the girl had ever said to her. as the scrubbing continued, Wednesday stayed true to her word, scrubbing more softly around the marks left on her face. she wasn't particularly worried about her injuries, as werewolves are known for their fast-healing properties, unfortunately though, due to the speed of their healing, scarring is a very common by-product. she knew her mother wouldn't be happy about the scars tainting her skin, as it meant she got hurt in a battle, that she wasn't strong enough to take the enemy down without them getting hits off on her. she was bought back to reality as she noticed the cloth being pulled away from her skin. Wednesday's eyes stared straight at the marks with such intensity that Enid wasn't sure if the burning feeling was pain from the wounds or Wednesday's eyes burning holes into her skin.
"That Definity needs stitches." Wednesday finally stated, turning around to grab the box she had brought into the room with her. Enid's nerves heightened again.
"Actually, I'm probably fine without stitches, werewolves heal fast," Enid informed the other girl, staring nervously at the box.
"Fast, but not fast enough for the chance of bleeding out to be ignored. these scratches run deep." Wednesday countered, not even turning to look at the other girl as she began to remove items from the box. Thing came down and held Enid's hand, as he had done while she wolfed out. that alone was a whole other can of worms that she didn't really want to unpack currently, instead focusing on Thing and not the needle Wednesday was currently threading. between Thing's comforting and getting lost in her own thoughts, Enid managed to mainly ignore the feeling of the needle threading through her skin. when she looked up at Wednesday, she noticed the girl just seemed to be phased out, staring directly into Enid's eyes.
"Hey," she murmured gently, attempting to break the girl out of whatever trance she seemed to be in, and it seemed to work.
"Hey," Wednesday replied softly. continuing to stare for a few more moments before retrieving the dirtied washcloth from the floor and placing it in the sink before moving away. unfortunately, Enid would not let that slide.
"Where do you think you're going? you're injured, Aswell." she pointed out. in Enid's 'focus on anything but the needle' time, she had also noticed what was likely a wound on Wednesday's shoulder, she had decided, due to the pooling of blood that had stained her uniform red. Wednesday raised an eyebrow at her, a 'and what are you going to do about it in your current state?' sort of look.
"You said thing knows how to stitch, I'll just use the washcloth," she said, answering the unspoken question. deeming it an acceptable answer, Wednesday sat back down and turned to stare at her hands while thing grabbed a new washcloth and soaked it. after handing it to Enid, he began to prepare the stitching equipment. Enid gently pressed the washcloth to the spot where the blood seemed to seep from, before moving down to where it had dried. overall, the wound seemed to have stopped producing blood ages ago and would likely not need the stitches that Enid was provided with. as she continued to clean up the blood, she noticed the way Wednesday seemed to lean into her touch ever so slightly, causing a light blush to come to her face. Wednesday looked up from her hands so that they were staring at each other again. Enid felt like she had fallen into a trance, at a loss for words she wasn't sure what to say.
"you're like, really pretty," she murmured. Wednesday's eyes widened slightly, causing Enid to realize what she just said. all the heat in her body seemed to rush to her cheeks. she racked her brain frantically for a way to salvage the situation, fear that she had just scared Wednesday away when they were the closest they'd ever been. Wednesday looked away.
"I suppose you're not too bad looking yourself." Wednesday seemed to whisper back. if Enid's cheeks hadn't been red before, they most certainly were now. after all her time with Wednesday, she had begun to learn how to read into how she talked, and that was likely one of the highest forms of compliments one could receive from the Wednesday Addams. she smiled nervously at Wednesday before finishing off her task at hand. afterward, she was sent back out into their rooms by both thing and Wednesday, while Wednesday had the wound on her shoulder treated by Thing. a part of her had wanted to stay, just so that she was near Wednesday, the same part of her that worried that she will soon wake up and be back on the forest floor, bleeding out, alone. since the bathroom was currently occupied, she decided to quickly get changed, or well, as quickly as she could, now that the adrenaline had completely worn off, to say she was exhausted was an understatement. despite that, she managed to get changed before the others got back to their room and collapsed onto her bed, sinking into the mountains of plushies. she heard the door open and looked up to see Thing running in, grabbing Wednesdays pj's and leaving again. feeling exhaustion start to get the better of her, Enid clambered under the covers of her bed, right as Wednesday and Thing walked in. Wednesday began to approach her own bed, thing already dragging the blankets and sheets out from Wednesday's bag before Enid sat up and called out to the girl.
"Wait, can i, uh, sleep in your bed tonight? with you?" usually, Enid would never ask such a thing, especially of Wednesday, as the girl is known for loving her personal space. the longing to be near the other girl, doubled by the exhaustion she was currently feeling and all but tripled by her fear that soon she will blink and find herself back in the forest, covered in blood and grime, caused her critical thinking skills to fail her. as Wednesday got into her bed, she turned to look at her, the softness, once again, evident in her gaze.
"Fine. but if you take all the blankets or touch me, you'll be sleeping on the floor. got it?" Enid hadn't even expected a yes, causing her to be extremely willing to accept the girl's terms and conditions. crossing onto Wednesday's side of the room, she silently clambered into her bed, already noting Wednesday in her usual corpse-like sleeping position with her arms crossed over her chest. she lay down on her side, turning to face away from the girl, hoping that would make her more comfortable in their current sleep setup. it didn't even take a minute for sleep to overtake Enid, and when it did, she welcomed it with open arms.
