Chapter Five
Harry was in a daze, especially after learning he had to compete or forfeit his magic. What a completely fair system, he thought as he rolled his eyes, making his way to the library-wouldn’t Hermione be so proud?
Tai had been chosen as the champion and most of Hogwarts couldn’t figure out for the love of them, what Triwizard Tournament could take from the muggle? Many assumed it was his status as a digidestined, but Kari knew better.
She wasn’t near the computer when the portal opened, it was supposed to be Sora but her digivice had yanked her out of her seat and had thrown her right through, Gatomon barely making it through.
It seemed that there wasn’t much difference between magic and the digital world as one thought.
The tournament had chosen her brother for a reason and the reason had something to do with their digimon. Agumon had looked feral when he’d digivolved and hadn’t that triggered a nearly forgotten memory for her.
Except all she could recall was a loud whistle and rubble falling all around them.
And then, the deafening sound of an ancient roar.
She remembers seeing Greatgreymon, remembers the absolute raw power and knew that that night changed their lives.

Spreading all his books out in front of him, Harry got to work, reading over the last time the tournament had been held. Two contestants had died and the tournament had ended with an unwanted winner.
“What lovely statistics, huh Elecmon?”
“The odds are terrible, Harry, are you sure there’s no way out?”
“Not unless a digimon attacks during the first task,” he sighed, holding his check in his palm.
Elecmon frowned, hopped out of Harry’s bag and pulled a book towards him. He could at least help out this way.
When they’d been in the antechambers discussing whether Harry was a true champion or not, it had been terrible. Tai held Harry, trying to calm his anxiety. Viktor stood next to them, like a bodyguard, daring anyone to touch them.
Surprisingly, Snape had also stayed away from the trio, simply watching.
“What about ze creatures?!”
“Hey!”
“We’re digimon!”
“Mister Potter may only use his magic, while Mister Kamiya will be allowed use of his….partner,” Snape reasoned.
Harry and Tai turned their heads towards the foul tempered man, surprised, but wisely said nothing. Once they’d returned to Gryffindor tower for the night, Elecmon voiced his displeasure at the thought of Harry being alone.
“But Harry! I’m your partner! It’s my job to keep you safe!”
“I know, but it’s the rules, otherwise I’ll lose my magic,”
“The rules suck!” Tai said from his position on the bed; he’d been throwing his soccer ball up in the air, contemplating what could be done.
“No doubt!” Matt agreed, while Gabumon nodded.
“Is there anything we can do?” T.k asked.
“Yea, try not to die!”
“Do you even know what the first task is, Harry?”
Harry and Tai both shook their heads. They’d asked Viktor but not even the Bulgarian wizard had any type of clue they might use. All they’d known was that it took courage and fearlessness.
“Imagine if it’s dragons!” Matt laughed, as did the others.
“There’s no way it’s dragons!” Tai shot back with a grin.
The small group of digidestined laughed, coming up with even more outrageous ideas as the time went on.

Mad eye Moody was tired, or least tired in the sense of wearing too much for very little benefit in the end. He’d nearly been caught twice by that blasted professor Snape! The man was still a thorn in his side, even after all these years! He had hoped to get rid of the little Potter heir, but he’d had one of those strange creatures with him!
He needed to find their weakness, if they possessed any at all. As such, he hadn’t found anything and would need to report back to his master sooner rather than later. With a defeated slump to his posture, the man silently exited his chambers to face his master with even more disappointing news. Without much thought, he threw the floo powder into the fireplace, spoke his destination and leapt in.

“Not one word, Matt, not one,” Tai bit out, nearly gnashing his teeth together in frustration at the sight of the four dragons, each one more ferocious than the last, spewing out deadly flames into the sky. Beside him, Agumon trembled, not due his own fear but to the fear he felt from Tai.
“It’ll be okay, Tai, I'm with you, remember?”
The child of courage shook his head, “I’m not worried about me,Agumon.”
Nothing more needed to be said between the partners. Agumon knew that Tai was more worried about his friend than himself. Agumon sighed, knowing that his partner’s feeling ran much more deeply than a simple friendship-he hoped that it would hold true. From what he’d heard, Harry hadn’t dated anyone, hadn’t even looked at anyone either. Elecmon had told him that Harry often tried to sleep with Tai’s jersey as much as he could.
It comforted him and made Agumon smile brightly at the thought that simple clothing could make him happy.
Focus drawn back by the large roar of the crowd along with several blasts from the magical cannons they’d used to signal the beginning and ending of a challenge. Viktor had gone first, going up against a Chinese Fireball which had scorched his entire right arm as he’d simultaneously cast a nasty conjunctivitis curse, before swooping in and snatching the golden egg.
He’d lost points based on the curse but overall, received high marks for speed and efficiency. At 20 points, Viktor was in the lead. Following that, Tai had gone up against a German Whiplash. Greymon and he had fought, working as a distraction-it had worked until the Whiplash unsheathed its dagger-like tail bone. Greymon had readied a Nova Flame but the German Whiplash was much faster than they’d anticipated, catching Tai across the face, leaving him scarred.
Harry had screamed, as did Hikari. Matt and TK had to quickly hold Harry back. They all watched as Tai was thrown back, rolling through the ground only to stop in front of Greymon.
“Tai!” Greymon grumbled, watching as the child of Courage stood up, wiped the blood and grinned. He gave Greymon a thumbs up as his digivice began to glow.
If Hogwarts had been impressed by Greymon, then MetalGreymon had several people fainting. Matt rolled his eyes and scoffed.
“You’re just mad you weren’t chosen!” TK teased.
“Ohh shut up!”
It hadn’t taken long for MetalGreymon to hold the German Whiplash against the wall, allowing Tai to grab the egg and finish the competition easily.
Now it left two, Fleur and Harry.
———————————————————————
Fleur had gone against a Brazilian Quetzal. She scoffed, noting that she’d gotten the most aesthetically appealing dragon rather than one based on strength. It was almost boring to conjure a flute and play for the creature.
Quetzals enjoyed music and often would allow young travelers that option of a trade-in this case, the golden egg for Vivaldi’s Spring. She came tied with Tai, leaving the final spot for Harry.
———————————————————————
The Hungarian Horntail-one of the most ferocious dragons, the only one which required special permission to even hold overnight at any dragon preserve. It boasted one of the most dangerous levels of flame known to Wizards-a shield spell could only hold for several seconds, its scales were thick, impervious to magic and this Horntail had been bought over weeks away from her first clutch’s hatching date. She hadn’t realized that there was an imposter among her clutch, all she’d known that strangers in cloaks and sticks had taken her far from the safety of her nest and mate, to this place full of even more strangers with sticks.
She wanted to go home!
A series of explosives rang out, causing the Horntail to shrink herself over her clutch, eyes watching for the next stranger to come towards her. She growled, claws and flames ready to defend her children.
The Horntail watched as the smallest thinnest youngling stumbled forwards, a stick in hand and he was trembling.
Was this a trick?
Harry could have sworn that the Horntail was just as confused as he was, both parties simply staring at each other. He could hear the clock counting his time, feel the crowd's anticipation and all he could do was nothing. Harry didn’t want to fight, didn’t want to compete.
Couldn’t they see that?! He hasn’t even come into his magical inheritance yet!
A series of grunts caught his attention, along with a telltale smack and Harry knew-Tai had tried to climb over the barrier only for Hikari to smack his head, while Matt dragged him back towards the medic tent. No doubt Madam Promfrey would have a few choice words for him.
Turning his attention back towards the Horntail, Harry swallowed hard, readying himself with the plan they’d come up with last night.
“Accio-“
“Отключите замок, скройте понимание в ярости, пусть начнется кровопролитие!”
Harry spun around-had someone said something?! For a moment there was silence before he heard the various mechanisms opening and a deep guttural roar fill the air.
Bullocks…
There was an overbearing heat as Harry raced for cover, screaming for his firebolt just as the stadium filled with fire and the screams of his own name were drowned out.
“HARRY!”
