Chapter 9
Elinor was running but she had no idea where she was going. She could hear Juliette behind her catching up, the youngest Fairmont was the newest to her powers but she was naturally a bit faster than the rest of them. The blonde was so deep in her thoughts that she did not notice the large tree branch in front of her and went tumbling. This allowed for Juliette to catch up to her sister and she couldn’t help but look at the older girl with sadness and a bit of pity.
“Stop looking at me like that” Elinor huffed as she picked herself back off the ground “and you can go back home. Tell Margot and Sebastian that I won’t murder the whole village or whatever they sent you after me for.”
Juliette immediately shook her head and shrugged. “They didn’t make me come after you, I wanted to. Well... mom gave me a look but I was going to come anyway. I DO care about you Elinor.”
The older vampire scoffed and leaned against a tree. “I know you do sweet little. I must be pretty important if I got you detangled from that little hunter you claim to love.”
Juliette bristled slightly at the mention of Cal, she knew Elinor was trying to get under her skin but she was naturally protective when it came to her girlfriend. It didn’t matter who was making the comments. “Don’t talk about her like that. But yes, you are important to me.”
Elinor rolled her eyes as she inspected her nails, clearly not wanting to talk anymore but knowing that Juliette wasn’t going to leave her alone. She was still furious but was saving it for her brother. She had to refocus and find Leighton. “Well since you’re here, let’s go look for Leighton.”
“...I don’t- let’s wait for our families to figure it out. There’s strength in numbers, right? Let’s just wait.”
At this Elinor did something she promised herself she would never do, but she was angry and desperate and wasn’t in her right mind. Before she even knew what was happening herself, her eyes glowed green and she locked them with her sister.
“You are going to look for Leighton with me. You are going to do as I say. We are in this together.”
Juliette slowly nodded under the glamour and although Elinor felt terrible, she knew she did what she had to. And thats when they heard a scream.
—————
Leighton had barricaded her self in the room she woke up in. Carmen was outside in the living room reading and Oliver had yet to return from wherever he had run off to. She couldn’t believe this had happened. What if Tatum wasn’t aware she was gone yet? What if she was in another country? She wasn’t sure how long she had been asleep or really anything; the room had nothing that could give her an indication of time and her phone was still at the house. She suddenly heard Oliver’s voice coming through the front door and squeezed herself into as much of the corner of the room that she could fit. She wanted to be as far away from him as possible.
Oliver knocked lightly on Leighton’s room door and opened it slowly after she didn’t answer.
“Hey, we have some food if you’re hungry. I didn’t know what you liked but based on what I’ve seen, you like expensive, so I stole some stuff from the house.”
Leighton looked at him in shock. How was he able to get back in and out of the Fairmont mansion without them noticing? Were they not home? Or was he just that good? The blonde nodded in acknowledgement but didn’t speak. Oliver eyed her curiously then turned to leave, leaving the door open as he went back to conversing with Carmen.
A few minutes later, Leighton realized that she did in fact have to eat and as much as her situation sucked, if she wasn’t in full strength she couldn’t figure a way out. Carmen’s spell be damned. As she slowly made her way out of the room she didn’t notice the witch or the vampire so she quickly grabbed as much food as she could carry when she was suddenly grabbed roughly. Oliver.
“You can’t possibly think this was actually for you did you? No no, see. This is all to get back at my dear sister. And seeing how much she cares about you, hurting you will hurt her the most. You’re the bait if you will.”
Leighton could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she looked into the crazed eyes of the man holding her arm in a grip that was getting tighter by the second.
“Babe,” Carmen softly interjected “let her eat. She doesn’t need to starve. She needs food just like I do.”
What happened next was a surprise to everyone. Oliver looked at Carmen as if he was processing what she was saying and then his face turned into another sick smile. “You’re right. But if she gets to eat, so do I” and at that, Leighton found her self pulled into Oliver and his fangs deeply plunged into her neck. All she could do was scream before she passed out.
