Chapter 5
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU BIT HER?!”
The sound of arguing woke Leighton up. The world was fuzzy and everything was distorted but she knew where she was and she remembered what happened up until she passed out. As the memories came flooding back to her, she sat up in the bed. She looked around and saw her girlfriend, her wounds from the fight with her brother quickly healing, and Margot, Jules, and Cal all very clearly trying to stay clear of the seething blonde.
“Elinor dear please. Lower your voice. I did what was necessary in the moment.”
“I’m failing to see how BITING MY GIRLFRIEND WAS NECESSARY” the younger girl screamed at her mother. If she had to breathe like mortals, her chest would be rising and falling quickly.
“Elinor. Please. Just listen to mo-“ Juliette was cut off by a swift glare from her sister and she cowered behind Cal who seemed conflicted about the situation.
“You” Elinor said wheeling at Cal, “what happened?”
The darker girl shrugged, trying to keep the room at peace. “I don’t know. I was here with Jules. I heard Leighton scream and then your mom brought her to me. She said she was going to find you and Oliver and Leighton just kinda snapped. She wanted you so she tried to fight us to get out. She’s pretty strong you know? But yeah. She wouldn’t calm down so your mom drained her a bit to get her to pass out.”
Elinor was about to lose it but her hearing picked up on the change in Leighton’s breathing, she was awake. The older blonde quickly made her way over to the bed and sat next to her girlfriend.
“Hey Leight,” she said with a softness that was not there two seconds ago, “how are you feeling?”
Leighton groaned and put her head on Elinor’s shoulder. “I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus. You’ve never bitten me like that. Why does this feel different?”
The vampires face quickly turned red in a blush as she quickly glanced at the other people in the room. Jules and Cal were trying to cover their laughs and Margot’s face was unreadable but if you looked closely enough you might have caught a flash of amusement.
“It’s because mother bit you. She’s older so hers pack a little bit more of a punch. But don’t worry. It won’t change you.” Elinor glared at her mother when she said the last sentence. Changing was a…timid topic between the couple. They could never really find solid ground about it. One day Leighton would want it and Elinor didn’t and the next Elinor was willing but Leighton wasn’t. They had yet to find a solution which is why Elinor was so livid about it. She was the only one allowed to bite Leighton because she could trust herself not to turn her. Her mother was old and powerful, she could have changed Leighton just from that one bite if she wanted to.
Margot gave her daughter an apologetic look and then turned to her youngest daughter and her girlfriend. “Come, let’s leave these two alone”
“But this is my room??” Juliette started to protest.
“Calliope. Juliette. Now.”
It was evident Margot was leaving no room for discussion and the two teenagers nearly tripped over themselves leaving the room.
Leighton laughed at the sight and laid back down in the bed, pulling Elinor with her.
“So” she said playing with the older girls blonde locks, “what happened with you and Oliver?”
Elinor crinkled her nose at the statement and shook her head, dismissing the question.
“Go back to sleep. We’ll talk more after dinner.”
