Stitches and fangs
“According to the size of the blood stains left on my towel, I’d say only one or two wounds will require stitching.” stated Wednesday with her monotonous voice.
It was late. Past midnight in fact and it had started to rain. The ravenette had helped towel-wrapped Enid sit on her black bed so she could determine which of her wounds need stitching.
“Oh no! I’m so sorry Wednesday! I didn’t mean to ruin your towel!” the werewolf started to panic. “I’ll buy you a new one. And all black and-”
“Enid.” interrupted the shorter girl. ”If you think blood from a werewolf fighting a Hyde will ruin my towels, then you don’t know me as well as I thought.”
Enid gave her a warm smile.
The rain started to get heavier. It evolved into a thunderstorm as aggressive raindrops hammered the circular window. The wind howled and a sudden scream from the infirmary tore the air apart!
How romantic. thought Wednesday spontaneously. Then, she caught her train of thoughts and realizing what she just thought, she widened her eyes.
“Uh, Wednesday? Are you ok?” asked Enid.
“Hm?” the ravenette snapped back to reality. “Yes. I was just thinking… what wound should we treat first.”
Wednesday cleared her throat and continued examining the werewolf’s blood stains as if nothing happened. She tried to push her previous thought aside as she focused on the task at hand. The largest stain was coming from a spot a little above Enid’s stomach, just below her chest.
“I’d say we start with the wound located in your upper core. It seems the deepest, so it would be wise to start from there.” she said matter-of-factly.
“Oh, ok.” responded Enid blushing a little as she realized that she would have to… reveal certain parts to Wednesday. Again. For that same night.
Gosh, this is weird! she thought.
“Uh, could I borrow another towel? To… you know.” the blonde gestured towards her chest.
Wednesday’s eyebrows lifted in realization. “Yes. Of course.” she stated and stood up stiffly reaching her closet. She unfolded a black towel and returned to the bed the blonde was sitting on. As she handed the towel to Enid their hands touched. Both eyes found each other. Blue met black. Sky met abyss…
Then a thunder roared and both turned their eyes elsewhere.
“I’ll give you a moment to…prepare.” suggested Wednesday.
“Okay.” nodded Enid.
The ravenette turned her back to the werewolf giving her some privacy. She went to her writing desk and prepared the needles and gauzes. However, it was a quick task and she found herself looking out of the window gazing at the thunderstorm. Here and there, she heard fabric brush against skin and a little awkward readjusting on the bed.
As she watched the rain fall, a reflection of Enid’s bare back caught her eyes. While she moved, her muscles became more defined and she noticed that they were covered in incredible bruises and cuts and-
“Okay. I’m ready.” said Enid.
Wednesday snapped out of her thoughts and turned around.
The taller girl was sitting on the bed with the blood-stained towel wrapped around her waist covering her lower body, while she clenched on to the black towel hiding her chest. The white of her skin clashed with the scarlet of her claw-shaped wound, which tore the flesh just below her chest.
“That beast.” Wednesday sputtered. “He aimed for the heart.”
If looks or even thoughts could kill, Tyler would be dead by now.
No one is allowed to hurt Enid like this. No one mustn’t hurt Enid like this. It is unfair. thought the black haired girl.
“Wednesday, it’s okay. I knew what I was going into when I attacked Tyler.” said the werewolf as if she could read minds. “And if you think my wounds are bad, you should definitely see Tyler’s.” she joked trying to lift the weight off the conversation.
Wednesday just gave her a serious look and grabbed the antiseptic bottle from her writing table. “I’m sorry, but this is going to sting.” she warned Enid changing the subject.
The blonde gulped and scrunched up her nose waiting for the worse. Wednesday poured some of the liquid on a gauze and gently tapped the deep wound.
Enid hissed.
“I know, I know.” whispered the ravenette. She lifted her hand to touch Enid’s, but stopped mid-air.
She never had the urge to comfort someone. Until now. It was unplanned and… weird. She closed her fingers and lowered her hand.
Luckily for her, all this went unnoticed to the taller girl who had closed her eyes in pain. Wednesday felt a strange feeling in her stomach, but shook it away and continued disinfecting the wound with soft strokes. When she finished, she proceeded in stitching it up with the air of a professional who had done this many times in the past.
Every time Wednesday pierced Enid’s skin with the needle the latter flinched, but otherwise remained still. The dark haired girl had lost count of how many times she was surprised by her that night. Enid had shown immense bravery, first fighting the Hyde, while she transformed for the first time and now by standing still during a painful situation, while only a few weeks ago, she had fainted due to the mere sight of blood.
“Okay, it’s done.” stated Wednesday when she finished.
“Great.” exhaled Enid relieved. Then she noticed that Wednesday’s look shifted. “Is something wrong? Did I do something wrong? I’m sorry if I moved or something, I tried to remain still, but you know how much needles frighten me so I-”
“Enid. You did nothing wrong. On the contrary even.” reassured her the shorter girl.
“Oh, okay. Then… ?”
The ravenette hesitated. “Forget it. It’s nothing.”
“No, tell me.” insisted the blonde.
Wednesday bit the inner side of her mouth. “It’s just… your fangs are out.”
Enid’s eyes widened. “Oh, err…”
“I want you to know that you don’t have to be… afraid of me.” said Wednesday.
“Why do you say that?” the blonde half-laughed.
“Because your fangs have lengthened. And werewolves only do this either when they get a sense of danger or when they get… aroused.”
Silence filled the room.
Enid’s blue eyes pierced Wednesday’s black ones. “I’m not afraid of you, Wednesday.”
Silence fell again. Both hearts started beating faster. A lighting struck and almost immediately, a thunder followed.
Wednesday and Enid were sitting closely next to each other. The dark haired girl glanced at the blonde’s lips and then looked her in the eyes. She opened her mouth to say something. ”Enid.” she gulped and searched for words. “A famous man once said ‘Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.’ And while I was in Crackstone’s crypt, rapidly bleeding to death, I realized that… I’m not ready to die before I do this. ”
And she kissed Enid.
A lightning flashed, a thunder roared, the world exploded around them in rain and wind and-

“Enid, are you okay?” sounded Wednesday’s voice.
“Huh?” Enid snapped back to reality.
“You froze for a moment.” Wednesday’s eyebrows joined.
“Uh, yeah. I’m fine.” replied the werewolf seeing the ghost of her thoughts still playing in her head. “Why wouldn’t I be?” she laughed nervously.
“You seemed shocked and absorbed in some thought when I mentioned that you fangs were out.”
“Oh, that. Yeah, it was probably some post-effect of my transformation. That’s all.” she waved her hand.
Wednesday opened her mouth to say something but-
CREEEK… the door opened.
Wednesday stepped in front of Enid to cover her half-dressed state as she noticed…
“Thing! You’re back.”
Thing waved slowly and tapped its fingers on the floor.
“Yes, everything’s perfectly fine!” answered Enid a little too loud. “Wednesday here took care of me. Oh, look! My other wounds are completely healed, so… time to go to bed!”
Wednesday and Thing exchanged looks.
“I suppose so.” said Wednesday slowly. “Indeed, something seems to have triggered your werewolf’s fast-healing process.” she noticed.
Thing tapped it’s fingers on the floor.
“Yes, goodnight Thing.” replied the ravenette slowly and turned her eyes on the werewolf. “Enid.” she nodded with a meaningful look.
Enid clung on her towels. “Well, uh… I better go change now.” she let out a nervous laugh.
“Enid.” said Wednesday. “Thank you. And don’t make this weird.”
The blonde blushed. “I-I’m not. I mean, you’re welcome. I mean-” she made a growling sound and went to the bathroom closing the door behind her with a BANG.
