Reunited
Chishiya was certainly not a morning person. And when you wake up in a dystopian world after battling in incredibly taxing life or death situations, you have every right to feel sorry for yourself in the mornings. And after yesterday's unfortunate events, he felt like his muscles had been twisted like balloon dogs at a child’s birthday party. He was currently extremely uncomfortable in his position on the shops floor, and unfathomably cold. His neck was in an odd position, and his limbs were tucked around him painfully in the limited space the pair had between them.
It looked like the sun had only just risen, and Chishiya groaned internally. He couldn't get back to sleep now in this position, even though he knew he needed it, he was absolutely freezing. He cursed himself for giving away his jacket so freely, even though he was secretly glad that Arisu was warmer then himself. But still, he missed it. Speaking of the younger man, Chishiya rolled over to face him, wincing slightly at the soreness in his limbs.
The gamer was sleeping peacefully beside him, his face buried in the collar of Chishiya's jacket, the hood pulled firmly over his head. The morning light illuminated his soft features perfectly, and he wished he could freeze this moment, and preserve it forever.
Chishiya could hear the gentle breaths that were escaping rhythmically from the gamer’s parted mouth, as his chest rose and fell. It was oddly cute. A cold draft made its way underneath the door, causing Chishiya to shiver again and made a decision. A possibly stupid decision, but a decision nonetheless. Carefully, as to not to wake the dark haired man, Chishiya used his arms to shuffle closer to Arisu, so close he could feel the gamers body heat radiating off him.
That was a bit better, it was significantly warmer here.
Arisu stirred a little with a grumpy sigh, his face tensing ever so slightly as he automatically moved towards Chishiya, with one hand making its way to rest on his ripped shirt. Despite the flush of heat that flooded his face, Chishiya slowly wrapped an arm around Arisu’s waist, and fell into sleep once again.
“Well isn’t this cute.”
Arisu’s eyes flew open, and landed on...Kuina? She, along with Tatta ,Usagi and Ann had formed a semi circle around the sleeping pair, judging them, no doubt. They all looked tired and dirty, but also very amused. Apart from Usagi, who looked as though she had swallowed a whole lemon. Arisu grimaced slightly, she was definitely furious at him. He could deal with that later, for now he was just glad to see them all alive and well.
But how were they all here?
“Er...” Arisu's words got caught in his throat, when he realized what they were all smirking at.
His and Chishiya’s limbs were tangled together where they lay, with one of Chishiya’s arms snaked lazily around Arisu’s waist. The blonde was still fast asleep, the crook of his neck was aligned with the side of Arisu’s face. He blushed bright red under Kuina’s teasing smile, and jabbed Chishiya’s arm to wake him up, trying to act as cool as possible.
“What’s happening?” Chishiya murmured, his voice groggy with sleep, his warm breath brushing Arisu's hair.
“Wake up you idiot!” The younger man hissed, whacking his arm again as he wriggling away from Chishiya’s tight embrace.
“Oh, hello.” Chishiya said to the people watching him, a gentle yawn falling over him. There was not a trace of guilt or embarrassment of his face, how could he possibly be calm right now!?
“Um, how did you guys find us?” Arisu said, stumbling over his words in a desperate effort to change the subject. He was also curious, and rather confused about how they had tracked them down, especially when the King could be lurking around any corner.
“We killed the King of Spades” Ann said quietly from her position, she was standing the furthest away from the pair.
“What! That's amazing, how did you do that?” Arisu gushed, unable to process this new information. Even Chishiya looked surprised, and slightly impressed, an unusual emotion for him. The king had seemed unbeatable, with his lightning fast shots and unlimited resources.
“It was all Tatta’s work actually,” said Kuina, patting Tatta on his shoulder with a happy smile. Their eyes all turned to the man, who seemed to shrink a little with the attention on him.
“I , er, sort of ran him over. It was an accident” He muttered, he couldn’t seem to make up his mind about whether he should feel guilty, or proud.
This statement was met with several moments of shocked quiet, until Chishiya spoke up.
“So let me get this straight. You killed one of the most hardy and deadly people we have ever come across, completely by accident? “
“Yep.”
Tatta looked even more nervous now, Arisu could almost see the anxiety flowing off him.
Chishiya, who was now sitting upwards, let out a small chuckle, which made Arisu jump slightly.
“Your really amazing Tatta.”
Wow, a compliment, Chishiya was really going overboard today. A wide grin spread across Tatta’s face, he was now practically glowing with pride and relief. Chishiya’s approval was not a small thing to win. Arisu felt a warm spark of pride ignite in his chest at the older man's actions, and he let an easy smile flit across his face. Arisu stood from the floor, he ignored the sudden bought of dizziness he felt, and pulled Tatta into a hug. The beaming man happily reciprocated the action, he wasn’t used to people thinking something he did was great.
“I’m glad you guys are here. You still haven’t explained how you found us, Kuina?” said Arisu, addressing the girl stood on his right.
“Oh yea, sorry. We were driving around the area all night looking for you, it was pure chance we managed to spot you at all with those grimy windows.” Kuina gestured to the shops front window, which was indeed coated in filth.
Arisu nodded and turned to face Usagi, who had not spoken a word since they reunited. She stood stony faced, staring angrily at the wall behind Arisu’s head. She had never given Arisu the cold shoulder before, and he racked his brain in an effort to figure out what he had done wrong.
“Usagi?” he tried and she turned to meet his eyes. They were not full of hate or anger, but disappointment?
She grabbed his elbow, and steered him to the other side of the store, away from the others prying ears and eyes. The light was dim, and rubbish crunched under his shoes. They stood facing each other for a minute, Arisu waiting for Usagi to start talking.
“Why didn’t you tell me Arisu?” she whispered, her voice breaking slightly with emotion.
“I thought-I thought you liked me. Were you just leading me on this whole time? For fun? I trusted you Arisu, hell, I thought I loved you.”
“Usagi, what are you talking about? Why are you asking me that!?” Arisu replied frantically, was Usagi angry at him for not making it too the car? No, that didn’t seem quite right. But what had made her ask him that?
Usagi took a breath and wiped her eyes where small tears had gathered. Arisu tried to pull her into a hug, to comfort her, but she pushed him away harshly.
“Arisu, you could have just told me you liked Chishiya. It would have saved me an awful lot of heartache.” She finally said, in a small voice.
...What? Why would Usagi think he liked Chishiya? It was completely absurd! Arisu didn’t know if he liked Usagi, but he definitely had zero feelings towards the bleached haired man.
“Are you being serious Usagi? Of course I don’t like Chishiya, I’m straight!” The gamer tried desperately to read Usagi’s expression, and she let out a harsh laugh.
“You were literally asleep and cuddling when we came in! Don't pretend that you weren't blushing like a squashed tomato. And-And your still wearing his bloody jacket Arisu!” She shouted, finally dropping her quiet tone, her voice sounded like it was being played through a speaker in the confined space. Their friends overheard the shout, and Tatta’s worried face appeared over the isle, his hat covering his head.
“Are you guys alright over there?”
“We are fine Tatta, we need to get going now.” said Usagi, pushing past Arisu as she wiped away the last of her tears with the back of her hand.
“Usagi wait-”
But she was already gone.
Arisu stared at his hands, trying to comprehend the conversation he had just had. Usagi was angry with him because...she thought he liked Chishiya? Sure, the cuddling might have looked strange without context, but they did it completely by accident, and it was freezing! Did Usagi want him to freeze to death? To be honest, it looked like she probably did. He gulped down a wave of sorrow that hit him with little success, and for the millionth time in the past two days, he felt tears welling in his eyes. Usagi was his closet living friend, she had been the only one who was there for him after the seven of hearts game. All she had done was good to him, he couldn’t lose her too.
“Arisu, come on.”
Chishiya’s voice broke the silence, as he rounded the corner to face Arisu. It was him who had caused this mess, who had turned Usagi against him. Rage blossomed in Arisu’s dark eyes, as he slipped of the warm jacket that was sitting snugly on his shoulders. He tossed it at Chishiya’s feet, earning a glare of confusion, and slight anger from the man.
“Don’t worry about thanking me.” He said coldly, stooping to pull the white material from the ground.
“What's wrong with you Arisu, what did Usagi tell you?” He added, after pulling the clothing around himself.
“Are you alright?” He added afterwards, with a little worry concealed in his voice.
“All you do is cause problems.” Arisu said, with venom.
“Just leave me alone, ok?”
He pushed past a slightly stunned Chishiya, much like Usagi had done earlier, and followed their friends to the car that was waiting outside.
