LIAR
"LIAR"
“I.. don’t even know… wh-“ Marcy suddenly grabbed the collar of Anne shirt and crushed her lips against Anne’s. She gasped at the sudden shock but quickly continued it. This was bliss, and she wanted it to stay like this forever. Does this make them Girlfriends? She wasn’t sure. But whatever the hell they had she adored.
They kissed until their lungs threatened to explode if they didn't get air soon.
Anne pulled back, gasping for air. Marcy laughed breathlessly, lying on her back. Anne laid too, their chests heaving as they tried to unsuccessfully normalize their breathing.
"wow.... that was... much different than the movies described.." Marcy spoke between breaths.
"yeah.. way different.." Anne replied, turning her head towards Marcy. "so does this.. are we..?"
"yeah, yes Anne we are" Marcy seemed to answer her question despite her not even being able to finish it. Marcy's hand made it's way to Anne's, and they intertwined their fingers. Anne pulled Marcy as close as she could, letting the other girl's head rest on her chest. The top of her head fitting perfectly under Anne's chin. Anne didn't know how long they were there, but decided when she was getting almost too drowsy to think straight it would but a good time to tell Marcy it was time to leave.
Marcy wasn't necessarily a light sleeper like Anne, but not a deep sleeper like Sasha. She was a perfect in-between. "Marcy" Anne whispered in her half-sleeping partner's ear. Anne's soft voice made Marcy shiver, but she played it off as being cold.
"mm?" Marcy hummed, not moving.
"it's time to leave, we don't want to worry Hoppop if he wakes up and finds us missing" Anne had a sudden realization, that could have happened any night, they were a lucky two.
"noooo" Marcy groaned, burying her face into Anne's neck. Her heart skipped a beat. She hopped Marcy couldn't hear her heart hammering, but from her positioning, it was most-likely she could.
"Yes, come on" Anne sat up, making lean on her for support. "Ew, now my back is all wet" Anne complained, but Marcy didn't seem to hear.
"Can you carry me please?" Marcy looked up to Anne, the tiredness in her eyes speaking for themselves.
"Of course" Anne sighed as Marcy climbed onto her back. "When was the last time you got a full night's rest?"
"Mmmm, a few days ago?"
"Yeah, makes sense"
They walked in silence for the next few minutes, Marcy's breath warm on her neck. Soon the Plantar's Familly Home came into view. Anne didn't even realize that Marcy had fallen asleep until called her name and she didn't reply.
Anne lightly placed Marcy on her bed, sighing and sitting at her side. Marcy's clock read 3:34 AM. Anne's eyebrow shot up as she realized she need to get back to her room. She placed a quick Kiss on Marcy's forehead and quickly ran back.

Marcy awoke with a start, her chest heaving. She put a hand over her heart and tried to slow down its beat. After a few minutes it was alright, so she looked to her clock. It read 5:16 AM, a little earlier than she’d usually wake up, but that’s ok. Can’t go to sleep now, I don’t want to disturb my circadian rhythm she thought to herself.
She changed out of her pjs into her ranger uniform, noticing that her long-sleeve and shorts were not longer moist. She felt so tired, what time had she gone to bed?
Suddenly last night’s events replayed in her head and her cheeks flushed a deep red. She has really kissed Anne, but not like in the cave, that now seemed meaningless compared to what she had just experienced.
Marcy had to sit down, leaning against a wall and closing her eyes. She could still remember it vividly. The way Anne held her. The way she grabbed Anne’s shirt so confidently. The taste of her cherry chapstick seemed to still linger.
What had she just been doing? Getting ready for the day, right. Marcy heaved herself up from the ground. She walked slowly over to the sink, brushing her teeth and splashing cold water on her face multiple times. Was it possible to be hung over from a kiss? If so, that’s how she’d describe herself.
Marcy was now thankful that she had woken up early, she now had enough estimated time to rid the butterflies in her stomach, and mentally prepare herself to see Anne. Another memory hit her. "so does this.. are we..?" "yeah, yes Anne we are"
Her and Anne were now in an established relationship, this was more than she could have ever hoped for. Just to think about 2 weeks ago Anne had left Newtopia… and her. No, she wouldn’t think about that now. Anne obviously cared for her much more than she’d thought. They also had a plethora of adventures in the future she couldn’t wait to surprise Anne with.
We just need the last gem charged and then we’ll be off! Marcy thought, a giddy smile appearing on her face. Of course the’d have to find Sasha and the 2 friends would have to make up, but that’s easy. After all this wasn’t the first time they’ve fought.
Sasha and Anne always got into arguments back home, and it’d end with them forgiving each other. Sure they’d never fought with swords before or almost died, but it couldn’t be that different… right?
Suddenly a knock on the door stirred her away from her thoughts. Confused she looked at the clock. 6:30 AM it read. How long has she been stuck in her thoughts? When had she sat down on her bed from the sink? She quickly went to go open the door, reaching for her pouch where she carried her journal. It was light and she remembered that’s she’d lost it not to long ago.
Throwing it back she opened the door just as Anne was about to knock again, almost punching her.
“Gah Marcy! I almost hit you!” The Thai girl jumped back in surprise.
Marcy laughed, closing the door behind her.
“Jumpy today, aren’t ya?” Marcy teased.
“No, well I guess this is the last day before we leave for the third temple” she admitted, her hand rubbing the back of her neck. Marcy noticed she always did that when she was embarrassed or nervous. And Marcy found it adorable. The butterflies she had managed to rid were back and even stronger now. Her face flushed, hopefully Anne didn’t notice.
“You good Marbles?” Anne questioned, shoot! She had been staring by accident!
“Y-yeah! I’m good!” Marcy said, then looked down, shuffling her feet from embarrassment.
Anne seemed to sense that, breaking the silence before it became to awkward. “Hey, want to look for your journal again today? I know how much you’d love to document the third temple as we go” Anne suggested.
“Yes! Let’s go let’s go!” Marcy jumped from the prospect of maybe finding her journal. Her hands flapping in a repetitive motion. It’d been hard the past few days without Jo.
“Woah woah, slow down! We need breakfast first” Anne spoke reasonably.
“Ok ok! Let’s go then, quicker we eat the quicker we find Jo!” Marcy practically shouted, bounding over to the house.
Anne stared after her girlfriend with adoration for a moment before running after her. “Did you seriously name your journal Mars?”
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
They were walking back to the cave where the journal last was. Anne was thinking of places she could quickly place the journal that wasn’t quite in view, yet not totally hidden so Marcy would question how she found it. Maybe she would leave Marcy to find it, although she wasn’t sure how observant Marcy was.
She seemed dead concentrated on the path ahead so Anne stopped walking and quickly placed it half hanging out of a bush on near the path they made. Anne had decided she wasn’t going to tell Marcy she’s had her journal this whole time, nor that she read it. It just bseemed like the best idea, oblivion is bliss right?
She quickly, but silently came up beside Marcy again. She didn’t even seem to notice. For once she appreciated her girlfriend’s obliviousness.
They had already arrived at the cave, it seemed every time they came here the walk was shorter. Maybe this would be their cave.
“It’s still as breath-taking as the first time we came here” Anne breathed as her eyes adjusted again.
“You’re right, the life here in Amphibia is so much different than home. Even the enzymes in the mushrooms are drastically….” Anne’s hand subconsciously drifted towards Marcy’s as she rambled. She watched her explain facts about the mushrooms, fungi, and other plant life for a good chunk of time. Anne didn’t mind though, they walked as she talked. Looking around for her journal, although Anne was too occupied with admiring Marcy to look too hard.
Eventually Marcy finished her ramble and turned to Anne. A rosey blush forming when she saw Anne was staring.
“I-I think we’ve searched the w-whole cave” Marcy stuttered, looking away. Anne’s gaze softened at her flustered partner. Her free hand grabbed Marcy’s chin gently, lifting it up to face her. Her lip quivered as her face turned a deep shade of red. Although her own heart was pounding, she managed to keep her composure.
Anne’s other hand let go of Marcy’s hand to brush hair out of her eye. Her hand lingered on the back on Marcy’s neck. Anne hoped it wasn’t cold for the Raven-haired girl.
“W-we should move on to outside to of the c-cave, maybe it’s o-out there?” Marcy suggested, but didn’t pull away. She couldn’t seem to for some reason, it’s not like she wanted to anyways.
“It’s hard to look for your book when you’re being nerdy” Anne commented, massaging the back of Marcy’s neck. Despite her hands being cold, it felt warm, safe.
There was a moment of silence before Anne closed the gap between them. Marcy felt dizzy already, stepping back until they were up against a wall. It hadn’t been like this before, when she was half-asleep. Her arms wrapped around Anne’s back, gripping to her raggedy, beaten-up school uniform.
They kissed until they needed to breath, but they finally remembered they had noses, so pulling away from each other wasn’t a problem.
Finally Anne pulled back when her reminder went off. She set one in case they didn’t find it so they had a set time to go back, with enough time to get back. Anne tried speaking but it was just a slur of stuttered an half-words. She stoped trying, never had that happened before.
So, she showed Marcy the reminder on her phone. Nodding they held hands and walked out of the cave as if nothing happened. Anne almost forgot she placed the journal in a bush until Marcy un-twined their hand and went rushing over to it.
“Anne, Anne! Guess what!”
“Wait is that-“
“My journal!” She cried, cutting Anne off in excitement.
“Really? That’s awesome!” Anne smiled, knowing she’d probably never tell Marcy. But it made her feel better to see Marcy so happy.
“Best day ever!” Marcy cried, “Kisses from my Girlfriend and I found my book! Third Temple, you better watch out! Marcy’s fired up!”
“It’s still another 18 hours until we leave Marbles, you know” Anne chuckled.

Entry 66.
Hey Jo, happy I finally found you! Although… I knew you were never lost. I remember dropping you at the cave that one night, but I couldn’t go back. I had already made my decision to run. I trusted Anne to bring it back and give to me the next day, but the next day she acted like she didn’t know where it was. I played along to see if she had just genuinely forgotten that she had it, but after we talked about what I did(I kissed her Jo!) I saw it in her unzipped bag. I kind of hurt, but I just said whatever. Then days passed, we even ‘looked’ for it at the cave and she still acted like she didn’t know where it was. The today we ‘looked’ again and she thought I wouldn’t notice her slip off for a moment to place it in a bush. She probably read it, or at least some. I feel a little hurt but I won’t bring it up with her. I feel it’s a meaningless argument bound to happen so I’ll just stay silent as long as she does. Anyhow, happy to have you back before the third temple! Hope we find Sash!
