Chapter 25
Yoohyeon sat on the park bench, staring up at the sky. The sun was barely setting and she could see the little stars poking their way through what was left of the sunset. Some brighter than others, some smaller than others… But nonetheless, gorgeous to watch.
“Hey.”
Her attention was taken from the sky, landing on the woman who now dawned silver hair instead of red.
“New color?” Yoohyeon asked, trying to keep the conversation light.
“Yeah… I’ll have to go back to my black hair soon… I… start an internship in a few months,” Dong chuckled. “Schools aren’t too keen on their teachers having fun colored hair,” She smiled before sitting next to the woman.
“Wow… Everyone’s… Growing up…” Yoohyeon mumbled.
“You are too… Your hair is back to brown,” Dong pointed out.
“I needed to give it a break before I did anything else,” Yoohyeon sighed.
“I was surprised when you messaged me… At first, I thought it was a drunk text. But then you said it was because you were tired,” She whispered.
“Yeah… I didn’t know I would fall asleep while texting and still manage to hit send…” Yoohyeon laughed nervously. “But um… about the other stuff we’ve been talking about…”
“What made you change your mind?” Dong asked.
“I… Had a long time… thinking… and talking…” Yoohyeon whispered. “And after talking the entire thing out… we were only casual… We didn’t do anything other than see each other at night and barely hold hands… And… as furious as I was about you sleeping with Minji and hurting Siyeon… I’ve had time to cool down and… talk about that too…” She frowned.
“I’m going to guess you did a lot of talking with Minji…” Dong whispered.
“How did you know?”
“She was posting pictures of her vacation with Siyeon, you were in a few,” Dong chuckled. “But assuming you talked to her or Siyeon..?” She asked.
“I… talked to Minji… and she told me a lot of things… And put everything in perspective for me… And I’m still a little mad that you didn’t bother to confirm with Minji that she was dating anyone.” Yoohyeon quickly pointed at the woman. “But… I was angrier at the fact that I thought we were something more than we really were.” She sighed.
“Not to argue, but in my defense… I thought Minji could never… Find someone else…” Dong whispered. “She… wasn’t the best,” She frowned. “But why did you want to meet me here? Was it just to talk?” She asked.
Yoohyeon shook her head, pointing up at the sky. Both women looked up, seeing more stars starting to poke through the night sky.
“To look up at the stars again?” Dong asked.
“I thought we could start over… It’s… been some time since my last break up… And I think I’m just ready to move a little faster than before,” Yoohyeon shrugged.
Dong couldn’t help but smile.
“Same… I would… Very much love to move just a little bit faster with you,” Dong smiled.
Every night they met up, save for days when they had big tests or just needed to stay in and study. Yoohyeon would try her best to rekindle the candle that had been left untouched for a very long time. She was certain the wick was covered with wax, but after a while, she found the little spark that ignited the flame again.
“You’re kidding,” Yoohyeon laughed while shoving Dong’s shoulder.
The two were seated on the couch in Yoohyeon’s shared apartment, laughing and talking about various things. Their homework was long finished, allowing them to just relax and hang out.
“I’m not,” Dong chuckled. “Children are so… Different.” She laughed.
Two weeks of their little meets and everything had been going smoothly.
“Oh… Dong’s here…” Siyeon muttered when she walked into the apartment. “Again…” She muttered under her breath.
“Is Minji still giving you the silent treatment?” Yoohyeon sighed, getting a little agitated at Siyeon’s bitter attitude toward Dong. She watched as Siyeon gave her a side eye before walking into the kitchen, hearing her open and shut a few cabinets.
“Is she having trouble in paradise?” Dong chuckled.
“Yes. And she’s been taking it out on me.” Yoohyeon groaned. “Why don’t you just go to her apartment and be confrontational?” She asked.
“I did. Three weeks ago.” Siyeon stepped out of the kitchen, holding a bowl of cereal in her hands. “We broke up and we haven’t talked since. So if you’ll excuse me. I have an essay due.”
Yoohyeon watched her with widened eyes, turning back to Dong who looked equally shocked.
“Wait…” Dong quickly pulled out her phone, pulled up Minji’s socials, and saw the pictures from her vacation were taken down, all posts regarding Siyeon were gone and it was back to being incredibly sparse. “Wow… She’s not kidding… Look.” Dong shoved Yoohyeon the phone, both frowning at the sight.
“Poor thing… I wonder why she didn’t tell me…” Yoohyeon frowned.
“Maybe she’s just processing it,” Dong whispered. “She’ll come around.” She smiled.
“What were we talking about…?” Yoohyeon frowned.
“The kids we saw,” Dong smiled.
“Oh! Right!”
The two dove right back into their conversation, talking for a few more hours before Dong had gone home. Yoohyeon had butterflies in her stomach while walking her down the stairs to the entrance of the building, and couldn’t help but pull the older woman in for a quick kiss before they even made it to the building entrance.
“That’s going to be addicting…” Dong whispered when they pulled away.
“I couldn’t hold myself back,” Yoohyeon chuckled nervously.
“Don’t, I like it,” she smiled.
