Chapter 14

Yoohyeon groaned when she saw the note. How could Siyeon be that dumb? But she couldn’t say much because she had locked herself out a week prior.

She found the apartment with little difficulty and didn’t know what to do. She was fuming and went out to get snacks and dinner for the two of them. Now she was going to come face to face with this horrible person and she didn’t know what to do.

“Hi…” Yoohyeon was a little surprised when she didn’t see Minji at the door. Just another woman.

“Oh, are you Yoohyeon?” Bora asked, watching her nod her head. “Siyeon-ah, your roommate is here.”

Yoohyeon watched the shorter woman move out of the way, opening the door more. She saw Siyeon get up from the couch and saw Minji seated across from her. She had so many things to say, but she couldn’t right there. Not in front of a stranger.

She held onto Siyeon’s arm as they walked back. She was entirely confused about everything.

“Why were you there?” Yoohyeon frowned.

“She came by to return everything I got for her,” Siyeon explained. “But I told her to keep them… and she was worried I would freeze to death,” She mumbled.

“Oh… what were you doing outside?” She asked.

“I thought if I went outside the cold would make me forget the other pain,” Siyeon whispered.

Yoohyeon held her arm tighter, feeling horrible for her.

All of her feelings had been burnt up, not once feeling sad about losing her crush. Siyeon, however, was devastated. And she needed to be there for her. Needed to make sure she was going to be okay.

Bora stayed silent, watching Minji stare out the window. She had been silent ever since Siyeon left and everything felt so off.

“You’re hiding in your head… What’s going on?” Bora finally broke the silence, watching Minji take in a deep breath and let it out slowly.

“I feel guilty… And really upset…” Minji whispered.

“As you should. Shows you’re growing up,” Bora muttered. “Wait, upset?” She frowned.

“I don’t know if it’s upset or sick… I feel so gross…” She admitted. “I thought… I thought it wouldn’t feel like this. That I wouldn’t feel anything…” She whispered.

Bora scoffed at her.

“What?” Minji frowned.

“Every time I asked a question about the sudden gifts, you would smile. She took the time to get to know you and you used her.” Bora sighed. “You were clearly starting to like her,” She chuckled.

“Hardly. She’s so boring!” Minji groaned.

“Boring or not, she cared about you. No one else except me cared about you like that! Think about it, Minji. Not even your parents give a shit about you.” Bora stood up from the couch, walking to the door to get her bag and shoes. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. You need to really think this over. I really… I really hope you grow up more. I’m tired of the high school games you play with people,” She muttered before leaving.

It was two days.

Two days of Siyeon staying in bed. She refused to get up, only moving when she needed to. Yoohyeon tried everything, including their favorite takeout, but that didn’t work out perfectly at all.

“She hasn’t eaten?” Gahyeon frowned, peeking inside the bedroom.

“No… last time she was this upset was when her horse died for good while playing Red Dead 2…” Yoohyeon whispered.

“That funeral service was fantastic by the way,” Gahyeon whispered.

“Thank you. I felt it was appropriate to remember all of our fallen in-game comrades,” Yoohyeon whispered.

“As we should,” Gahyeon chuckled. “How are we going to get her out of bed?” She sighed while walking down the hallway with her friend.

“Maybe she just needs time… I needed time when that happened to me,” she sighed.

Gahyeon went to speak, only to be interrupted by someone knocking on the door. Both girls were confused at the sound, looking at each other.

“Is the bell broken?” Yoohyeon mumbled while walking to answer the door.

“No, I used it earlier,” Gahyeon spoke.

Yoohyeon opened the door, immediately frowning when she saw the person standing on the other side.

“What do you want?” Yoohyeon glared.

“Is Siyeon here?” Minji asked.

“Yes, but—”

“Great, hold this.” Minji shoved a bat in her hands and pushed her way in.

Gahyeon was shocked at the person on the other side and watched her shut herself in Siyeon’s room. She looked back at Yoohyeon and pointed at the bat that was in her hands.

“Uh…” Gahyeon pointed.

“I was very angry… and I still am… but I’m very confused…” Yoohyeon whispered while staring at the wooden bat in her hands.

Minji made sure the door was locked and frowned when the lock kept turning. So she grabbed the desk chair and set it in front of the door. She turned on a lamp and frowned when she saw Siyeon under the lump of blankets.

“Hey… I need to talk to you,” Minji helped her sit up, frowning when she went a little limp. “Please?” She frowned.

“What do you want?” Siyeon whimpered.

“Why did you like me so much?” Minji asked while sitting on her bed.

“I liked you… because you were kind… You’re really smart… Pursuing a science about rocks sounds so interesting and the fact that you were already pursuing science was just great… Your cooking was really good, I felt like I could talk to you… I was studying a lot better with you, and I… I can’t lie and say you aren’t pretty. Because you’re breathtakingly beautiful…” Siyeon explained. “But I know you don’t like me,” she sighed. “No one does,” she frowned.

“I said I didn’t like you,” Minji whispered.

“What?” Siyeon frowned.

“I’m… I’m about as smart as a riverstone when it comes to feelings… I didn’t know… I didn’t know how to handle anything and… it took my best friend to tell me that I lit up just talking about you,” She sighed. “You listened to me. You listened to everything I had to say and cared. You knew everything about me… Not even my best friend knows what you know,” she whispered.

Siyeon blinked a few times, watching the woman seated in front of her.

“I didn’t like you because I was so hung up on someone else… So obsessed with the idea of having her back… that I ruined people on the way just to have the small feelings of having her back…” She frowned. “And I know I’m pouring salt in the wound now, but I cheated on you so much… and thinking about it now makes me really sick… and I think it’s because I did like you… I kind of still like you and it’s so confusing…” She whispered.

“So… you like me now?” Siyeon whispered.

“I think I do… and I just… I don’t expect anything. I just wanted to come clean… and get answers… because I’m honestly a horrible person…” She frowned.

The two were silent. Letting everything settle around them. It was tense, but now everything was open around them and Siyeon was processing everything. Nothing was forming in Minji’s head, all she expected was for Siyeon to just tell her to get out and never want to see her again. She deserved it. She was an awful person.
