Chapter 8
Bora narrowed her eyes at the taller woman next to her. It didn’t take long for her eyes to land on the necklace that looked brand new.
“Did you buy a necklace?” Bora asked her.
“No, Siyeon bought it for me,” Minji quickly answered.
“When?” Bora frowned.
“A few weeks ago.” She shrugged. “I’ve been wearing turtle necks lately so you haven’t seen it. Plus you said not to talk about anything to do with her or that so I didn’t think it counted.”
Bora stood in front of her, reaching up to touch the necklace herself. She didn’t understand.
“Looks expensive,” Bora mumbled.
“I didn’t ask if it was,” Minji covered the necklace with her notebook, stepping away from Bora to get to their classes.
“You can’t keep accepting gifts!” Bora shouted at her before trailing behind. “Are you going to give it back to her when you ultimately break things off? Have you ever thought about that?” She glared, grabbing her arm to stop her.
“I thought you didn’t want me to talk to you about this!” Minji snapped. “For fucks sake Bora! I’m a grown adult and so are you. This is my business. Not yours,” She glared.
Bora took a step back at the sudden tone shift, shaking her head.
“You’re right… You’re right…” Bora sighed. “I’ll see you after class.”
Minji watched as Bora turned down another path, walking to her media class while Minji made her way down to the labs.
After their classes, Bora rushed to the student office. She burst in and let out a groan when she saw Gahyeon already there.
“You can’t keep racing me at the last minute!” Bora complained. “I shouldn’t get a text saying “if I beat you you owe me a coffee” during the last five minutes of my class that is across campus!” She shouted.
“You could’ve just won,” Gahyeon laughed. “Dami’s getting us coffee though,” She smiled.
Bora didn’t know why she felt giddy. Maybe from her crush but she wasn’t sure. She just knew she was happy Dami didn’t quit. She seemed so bored but she never left.
“Okay! My hands are covered in tree sap so… Help…” Dami shouted when she walked in.
Both girls hurried over, taking the tray from her hands and helping her into the bathroom to wash up. Gahyeon distributed the cups, happily taking a sip of her own before settling down in her chair.
“You have twigs all over you…” Bora frowned when she saw Dami’s backside.
She started to pluck the various sticks and leaves out of her hair when they heard their door open.
“I got it,” Gahyeon smiled. “What are you here for?” She asked the student.
Bora focused her attention back on Dami, moving more into the bathroom to throw out the different things she already pulled out.
“Did you go on a nature walk or something?” Bora chuckled.
“We did,” Dami smiled.
Bora rolled her eyes, completely focused on cleaning her up that she didn’t even realize how close she was to the younger woman.
“S-sorry,” she quickly mumbled, taking a step back.
“It’s okay,” Dami whispered. “Um… This is going to sound really forward… But uh… Would you like to go out for dinner?” She asked quietly.
Bora screamed internally.
“Yes, yes. I would love to go out for dinner with you,” Bora quickly smiled.
Yoohyeon walked alone from her last class, dragging her feet. She was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. But when she walked into her apartment she was met with loud laughter instead.
“Oh, your roommate is home…” Minji chuckled. “I should get going… She looks tired,” She sighed.
“She can sleep through anything.” Siyeon dismissed her concern, looking at Yoohyeon.
“She’s right, I can,” She laughed. “I’m just going to take a quick nap… I’m going back out tonight and I’m going to meet Dongie too,” She explained.
“Are you ever going to ask her out?” Siyeon asked as she stood up from the couch.
Minji froze at the words, almost ruining her plan right there. But she took in a small breath, listening to whatever Yoohyeon was going to say next.
“I don’t know… I like her, but we like where we’re at now… Casual and nothing tied down,” she spoke softly, unsure of everything.
That was when Minji hatched a plan.
She excused herself under the guise of a test and need to be rested, but she found her way to Dong’s apartment, checking with Bora that Dami was indeed gone.
“What are you doing here?” Dong frowned when she opened the door.
“You and I both know how pent-up we are,” Minji spoke. “And seeing you in those shorts during practice… You really think I forgot about them?” She raised an eyebrow at her.
“Get in and shut up.”
Yoohyeon sat by herself, scrolling through her phone while waiting for Dong. She was more than an hour late and she sent a text asking if she was okay more than twenty minutes ago. She debated on calling but decided against it because what if she fell asleep? Not everyone was built for staying up all night every few days.
By midnight she dismissed the idea of spending time with Dong and put on a movie to watch. She had an automatic timer going and three cameras pointed at different places in the sky.
She was back in the apartment at six in the morning, seeing Siyeon already up for her classes.
“How was last night?” She asked while taking a bite of cereal.
“Lonely,” Yoohyeon mumbled without any explanation.
Siyeon watched as she shuffled into her room, and shut the door behind her. She didn’t know what happened, but she did know that Yoohyeon needed sleep.
A few tears slipped down her cheeks the second she lay in her bed. She didn’t understand why she was so upset. People can just forget. Heck, she forgot things constantly. So she just blamed her feelings on lack of sleep.
Minji left early, planning on stopping by her dorm to shower and change. She knew she needed to cover the mark on her neck but she could just wear a turtleneck since it was chilly.
“At this rate, she’ll be back by spring,” Minji smiled to herself.
