Chapter 6

A month. A month of dates. Every other day and Siyeon was shot. She was on edge constantly, and she knew she should’ve been grateful that someone like Kim Minji was interested in her. And she was. She would be lying if she didn’t get flustered at the sudden hand-holding. The sudden hugs and cheek kisses.

“You have a girlfriend?!” Yoohyeon shouted, shocking both girls sitting on the couch. Dong had finally officially met Siyeon and they were seated together on the couch.

“Yeah? I think so?” Siyeon frowned, wringing her hands.

“Well, what happened?” Dong asked, a little calmer than the taller woman who was pacing in the living room in front of them.

“Well… She gave me a hug… And then asked me to be her girlfriend,” Siyeon explained.

“Oh, and you said?” Dong asked.

“I said okay…” Siyeon frowned, hearing a groan from the youngest woman in the room. “Was that wrong?” She whispered, clearly panicking.

“No. You did nothing wrong.” Dong quickly reassured. “Do you want to be her girlfriend?” She asked.

“She seems very nice… Kind, and she’s beautiful… She seems very smart too. Why wouldn’t someone want her as a girlfriend?” Siyeon asked.

“Seems like you just need to get used to the feeling then,” Dong smiled.

“I like this friend of yours Yooh. You should keep her around,” Siyeon smiled at the taller woman, seeing her unamused face. “What?” Her smile quickly faded, watching her best friend’s emotion turn into a look of concern.

“I just don’t want you to get hurt… And I worry. Just… Don’t do anything you aren’t comfortable with. Please. Promise me that.” Yoohyeon dropped to her knees, grabbing Siyeon’s hands, and staring right into her eyes.

Siyeon nodded her head, knowing where Yoohyeon was coming from.

“I promise.”

Dong invited Yoohyeon with her to practice, allowing her to just get out of the apartment and relax since they were on a little break from classes. They had taken their midterms and now we’re granted an off day.

Yoohyeon sat in the bleachers, not entirely paying attention to anything until she heard a loud shout. She turned her head to see the small pink-haired girl waving at her.

“Gahyeon?” Yoohyeon questioned.

“What are you doing here?” The smaller woman smiled as she climbed the bleachers.

“Dong invited me… What are you doing here?” Yoohyeon asked.

“Dongie.” Gahyeon giggled. “I dragged Dami here too. You should meet! She’s a great person to have around, very chill.”

Yoohyeon met Gahyeon’s best friend, a little awkward but they powered through it.

“How’s Siyeon? I haven’t heard from her… Usually, regroup and talk about our show…” the youngest pouted.

“She’s having a rough time. She got a girlfriend recently so all her social energy is going into that,” Yoohyeon shrugged.

“Wait… This is the same Siyeon you told me is afraid of her own shadow?!” Dami asked, looking at Gahyeon.

“Well yeah… Didn’t think she had game,” Gahyeon shrugged. “Have you met her yet?” She asked.

“No, I just know her name. Her name is Minji I think…” Yoohyeon mumbled.

Dami and Gahyeon both froze at the familiar name, glancing at each other before at Yoohyeon.

“What?”

“If you meet her… Can you tell us what she looks like? Because we know a Minji… And if it’s the same girl… Siyeon needs to drop her quick,” Dami frowned.

“Dong dated her.” Gahyeon tried to be nonchalant with her pointing at the head cheerleader. “That’s Kim Minji. She’s a horrible girl… Don’t let Siyeon walk into that train wreck.”

“How bad is it..?” Yoohyeon frowned.

“Well let’s just say… It wasn’t pretty…” Gahyeon frowned.

“Minji is manipulative and incredibly toxic,” Dami glared. “If she’s dating Siyeon, then be prepared for Siyeon to drop you as a friend in order to keep her as a girlfriend,” she warned.

“Siyeon wouldn’t drop me as a friend… We’ve been friends for years…” Yoohyeon was growing weary of this whole thing.

“Dong dropped us. And came back once she finally broke up with her. It was a bad falling out. Dong was so upset and screamed at her in public. We were nearby, so we took Dong away from her… let her apologize and just took care of her for a few days,” Dami explained. “Minji ruined her.”

“She would fill Dong’s head with so many lies, all of them sticking saying that she wouldn’t find anyone better than her and that we even hated her,” Gahyeon whispered. “You really need to meet this Minji girl… And not let Siyeon get further with her…”

Yoohyeon sat in the living room, her mind filling with so many thoughts that she actually had no idea what to do. Gahyeon wouldn’t lie to her. She was in school to be a lawyer. She couldn’t lie. And Dami was a new friend… And Dong seemed nice…

But what if she changed? What if Minji was a changed woman? People can learn from their mistakes and change their ways. Maybe it was all it took. A public shaming…

She was so lost in her thoughts that the doorbell startled her. She pulled herself up from the couch, walked over to answer, and was surprised.

“Hi… I’m here for Siyeon?” The woman in front of her was the exact girl her friends were warning her about.

“Oh, she’s in the shower. Do you guys have stuff planned?” Yoohyeon asked.

“Yeah, we were going to study together.” Minji’s smile made Yoohyeon want to think that the others were wrong. How could someone like this be so toxic?

“Oh! She told me! Come in. You can chill in the living room.” Yoohyeon moved over, allowing the woman to walk in and sit on the couch. “So… I am her best friend… so if you do anything to hurt her, I am legally obligated to harm you as well,” Yoohyeon chuckled.

“Oh don’t worry. I won’t hurt her,” Minji smiled. “Siyeon is very sweet and kind… I don’t want to hurt her.”

“Good,” Yoohyeon smiled. “I’m glad to hear that.”
