Starting Again

Freen's POV

Everything's going well since I woke up. It took some time but I can finally move again. I still remember when my friends first learned about my accident.

"Freeennn!!" Nam screamed as she entered my room crying. Tee followed her shortly. Tee also looked like she's about to cry but is holding it in because she still wants to look cool.

"I thought I will never see you again!" Nam said as she hugged me tight, still crying her eyes out. I looked around, hoping that the other patients in the hospital won't be disturbed by her loud voice. I then tapped her shoulder, hoping that she will understand and release me from her hug. Thankfully, she understood.

I grabbed the notebook from the table beside my bed and started writing. "Thank you for coming today. I'm sorry I made you guys worry." I handed them the notebook and they both look at me in confusion.

"What's going on Freen?" Tee asked. Nam nodded. They both looked more worried than before. I take the notebook back and write again. "I lose my voice in the accident."

Today, I will finally be discharged from the hospital. My grandmother entered my room. "Are you ready to go home Freen?" she asked. I nodded. Nam and Tee also entered the room. It's the weekend so both of them don't have classes for today. "Good morning Grandma." The both greeted my grandmother and then they proceed to help us with the bags.

The drive on the way home was quiet. I rolled down the window and let out my hand to feel the breeze. Being out of the hospital for the first time feels so refreshing. Refreshing in the sense that I can finally breathe. "Ah, I just remember," Nam broke the silence. I looked back at her. "Freen, now that you're out of the hospital, do you want to come to the school festival next week?" I looked at my grand mother and she seem to understand. "Yes, you may go with them. Just be careful okay?"

"Don't worry Grandma, we will take care of Freen." Tee said.

The day of the festival came. There are a lot of people in school. It feels surreal, being in school again. I miss coming here, but now I have to be homeschooled since I have to catch up and eventually enter the University. I walked around and there are so many stalls lined up. Some were selling food, some were selling souvenirs. Suddenly, I felt some weight on my back. "You're here!" I looked back and it was Nam who jumped on my back. "Oohh you look cool today." Tee teased as she removed my cap. I grabbed it from her and I wore it again. "Who are you trying to impress with that look" Nam teased as well so I ended up pinching their backs. To be honest, I don't understand why they are teasing me a lot today. I dress like this normally - I wear a hoodie and a cap whenever we go out. Sometimes I pair it with some jeans and white sneakers.

"Alright, we'll stop teasing you. I know you can't talk but your pinching still hurts like hell." Nam said as she rubs the part of her back that I just pinched.

"It's starting now." Tee said as she and Nam dragged me to the school auditorium. There are no empty seats left so we just stood there at the back.

"The new members of the music club will be performing today." Tee whispered to me.

I stood there in anticipation. I want to see how my juniors will do. I may not be able to sing but I can still appreciate their voices. Especially that kid. I know she will do well.

The MC called them out on stage and my eyes are fixed on her - the kid who always sleeps on the bench outside the music room. She has that aura of a performer in her. I can't help but be mesmerized as she performs the same song she sang during the audition. I find myself smiling for no particular reason. I didn't know she has this beautiful voice.

To be honest, she already caught my attention the first day she arrived. She looked cute when she was confused and lost when I asked what they were doing. She actually looked like a 3 year old kid.

I feel proud, seeing her on that stage performing. I know this kid will go a long way.

Becky's POV

Seven years.

I can't believe that seven years have passed since I came here in Thailand. At first, I thought our stay here is going to be temporary and we will eventually go back to our home in England. But it turns out that our family is staying here for good. Dad's business is going well here and Richie and I have adjusted well in living here. Emily, our youngest sister has been born and raised here too. However, while she's growing up, we discovered that she's deaf. It is also why our family is taking extra care of her.

After getting into the music club back in high school, I get to perform in front of a lot of people. I went to different schools for various competitions but I never get to see her. Maybe she has stopped singing. I feel sad when I think about it.

My thoughts were cut off when Emily entered the dressing room, followed by our mom and Richie. "Becky!!" Emily run towards me and gave me a tight hug. "How's your check up?" I signed. "It went okay." she signed back and pulled a lollipop from her small bag. "I even got a lollipop."

"Emily has been a good girl today that's why Dr. Heng gave her a lollipop." Mom said proudly.

"Is that so?" I asked and Emily nodded. I fixed her hearing aid so it won't fall off from her ear. "Do you want to eat ice cream after Becky's performance?" I asked. "Yay! Ice cream!" Emily jumped happily then she stopped and made a sign. She crossed her arm and made a gesture that looked like she's pulling an arrow and then she released it. "I love you!" she said.

"Where did you learn that?" I asked her because it's the first time that I saw to that sign.

"Phi taught me."
