meet the `hero`

How long had she been sleeping? How many times had she woken up in a sweat and fever, how many times had her eyes closed again? Has she died? If she was dead, what was this slightly sugary refreshing smell she received, the voices he didn't understand what was happening but guessed was speaking to her, the pain in a certain part of her body that made itself apparent again decently? Was death such a thing?

Her thoughts were sharp for the first time in a while, which seemed like centuries to her, and her eyelids no longer felt as if they were closed with a concrete. Come on, she thought. You're good. Open your eyes, Ava, there have been worse things. Open your eyes and walk home, you can do self-dressing.

As she began to strain her eyelids with all her might, at first an ordinary light took her eyes, then her gaze slowly became clearer. What she was waiting for was the sky, at least a dark sky, but what she was facing was not the sky, but a ceiling. A cracked white, ordinary apartment ceiling. Damn it, she thought. Her hand quickly went to her face and tried to touch the mask, but at that moment she realized that she was both without gloves and her face was clearly visible. She tried to sit up quickly, but the pain in her stomach literally knocked her down, a quiet breath, almost a hiss decanted through her teeth, she placed her hand on her stomach and slightly raised her head and looked.

As far as she noticed, she had nothing on her except her underwear, while a blanket had been left over her half-naked body and was keeping her warm. She quickly examined the surroundings, everything was quite tidy and simple. Various shades of off-white and brown were scattered around the room Ava was in and realized it was a bedroom. There was a work table right next to the door, and dozens of bandages, a bottle of tincture of iodine, several plates and bowls and glasses were lined up on it. He thought quickly; first of all, she definitely wasn't in a hospital, which was a good thing. The fewer people unaware of her identity, the sooner she could convince them. But how many people had definitely learned her identity? Whose house was it in? She strained her memory and remembered the last thing she realized she had felt: hands around her waist. She was that person. She should have been the one who saved her.

Before she could get up, or rather, while she was painfully fighting with her thoughts, the door opened. Ava tried to stand up slowly, to take a position to defend herself, but the pain was knocking her down again and again. “You're awake.” The person who entered was a girl about her own age, she had tightly gathered her dark brown hair and was wearing a loose-fitting white shirt, she had tucked the shirt into a dark navy blue tight-fitting trousers. Ava remained silent, her brown eyes continuing to hover in and over the girl's browns, measuring. At the same time, he was at a loss what to say. ”I'm Beatrice," she said as she slowly advanced towards her, she seemed to want not to scare her, but her face was serious. “What is your name?" And Ava was going to tell her her name and jeopardize the whole secret superhero thing? She bit her tongue, no, that wasn't going to happen. When the pain subsided a little, she would get up and leave quickly. And she would never see this girl again.

”I think we've passed the stage where I shouldn't have found out her name," Beatrice said, as if reading Ava's mind. ”That doesn't change anything," Ava said, speaking for the first time, her own voice sounding different in her ear. How long had she been unconscious? Shaking her head slightly, she decided that she should think about this later. "Look," said Beatrice, who was now standing, quite beside her. “I took you into my house, healed you, and I saw your face while I was doing it. At least if you tell me your name, you won't die.”

Although Ava kept silent, she knew that the girl was right, she owed her. But wouldn't it endanger her to tell his name? He saw your face, you idiot, a voice whispered from within. She sighed, looked up, met her gaze with browns and said, “Ava,”.
