night so long
That Wednesday, Ava drove Beatrice to the airport.
“Promise that we’ll call each other at least once a day,” Ava tells her.
“No matter how tired we are,” Beatrice nods. “Promise we’ll not overwork ourselves too hard and take time to rest.”
“Promise,” Ava nods as well.
“Take it easy, alright?” Bea caresses Ava’s face. “Don’t let her get to you anymore.”
“I did good yesterday,” Ava smiles.
“Good,” Beatrice takes Ava’s hand in hers and plays with it for a while. “I miss you already and you’re here in front of me,” she confesses.
“I feel the same,” Ava tells her.
“Miss Young, we should be boarding,” Camila’s assistant tells her.
“I’ll text you when we arrive in Glendale,” Beatrice kisses her tenderly.
Ava hugs her tight when they pull away from the kiss.
“Safe travels, my love,” Ava tries hard not to cry.
“See you in a month and a half,” Beatrice assures her.
They hug once more and Beatrice walks away with a wave.
Ava had to compose herself before driving to rehearsals. She let herself go when she entered her car. She knows it’s a little stupid. Beatrice will just go on tour and they didn’t break up. She figured she just had a flashback of before. She had to remind herself that it’s different this time. They get to call and text each other and they’ll just be apart for a month and a half. While she’s shooting in Atlanta in April, Bea will have a three-night show there and they get to be with each other for almost a week. Ava takes a few deep breaths and starts her car. She drives to rehearsals.
When she arrived, she greeted everyone and apologized for being a little late. Everyone nodded and told her it’s alright. They know Beatrice went away and besides, they haven’t started anything yet.
Ava went to the stunt team as they wait for Autumn to arrive. She was caught in traffic caused by an accident.
“You were involved in one, aren’t you?” of course, Lilith appears where she is.
“Involved in what?” Ava asks as she looked at the prop swords and shields.
“An accident,” Lilith says. “Wait, sorry if it’s triggering.”
“I was. I’m over it,” the stunt coordinator hands her the sword she’ll be using and weighed on it. “It’s a bit heavier than the one we used for training,” she comments.
“Miss de Wilde wanted to use metal ones so it will have more dramatic effect when you swing it,” the guy tells her.
Ava tries swinging it. Lilith steps back.
“Don’t worry, it’s dull,” the guy tells them. “The edges are rounded.”
“I think I can work with this,” Ava says, swinging it again.
“That’s kinda cool,” Lilith comments.
Ava goes to the dummies and starts hitting them with the choreography she was taught.
“Very good,” the guy praises her. “You’re a natural.”
“Thanks,” Ava says as she delivers a deathly blow on the dummy’s stomach.
“Let me join in that action!” they hear Mary call from behind.
“Let me show you your sword,” the guy leads Mary to the prop table.
Ava inspects the sword more while waiting for Mary.
“Beatrice went off to start her tour, huh?” Lilith inquires.
“Yeah,” Ava answers.
“Are you okay?”
“Sure.”
“Look, I’m just being friendly here,” Lilith sighs.
“Sure,” Ava repeats.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“What’s wrong with you?” Ava repeats, stressing ‘you’. “Everyone knows you hate me, Lilith. We can’t deny that. So, I rather not do this,” she gestures between them. “If it’s about our work here, then I’ll talk to you but if it’s personal, just forget it.”
“Whatever,” Lilith rolls her eyes and walks away.
“You finally got rid of her,” Mary comments when she approaches Ava. “What did you say?”
“The truth,” Ava sighs.
“Alright, let’s just practice,” Mary tells her. “This is so much cooler that what we used in training.”
“I know,” Ava smiles as she swings the sword.
After a few minutes, Autumn shows up and they start rehearsing.
Despite being tired and the time difference, they managed to fulfill their promise and call each other at the end of the day.
Beatrice is very excited to perform. She tells Ava that the stage, visuals, choreography and costumes is everything she hoped for. They managed to work on the last minute changes that she made and she’s very thankful for the team for accommodating it.
Ava tells her about the progress in rehearsals. She’s gotten praises from everyone about her stunts and Autumn really likes how she is attacking the role of Joan. She also tells her that since she told Lilith off, she has been staying away from her. Beatrice was relieved to hear it.
When Beatrice takes the stage, Camila will put Ava on FaceTime so she can watch. It made her very excited to see it in person in Atlanta.
Of course, there were unhappy times. When Ava flew to Atlanta to start shooting, she even became more tired at the end of each day. There were a few times that she wasn’t able to answer Beatrice’s call because she fell asleep. This made Bea upset but she understood. Ava also made sure that she made it up to her. She would send her flowers or her favorite pastries wherever she is.
Beatrice would also miss their calls because of last minute promos or guesting she needs to do especially with some politicians of a state she goes to. She only meets with ones with good track record and good intentions for the citizens. As a way to make up to Ava, she also sends her romantic things and sings her to sleep.
It was very challenging but they manage to work it out. It was something they haven’t done before so they are proud of themselves.
Ava was so thankful she had a day off when Beatrice arrived to Atlanta. She ran and launched herself towards Beatrice on the hotel lobby. It was a weekday so there’s not much people.
“I’ll leave you two,” Camila chuckles. “I’ll be on my room upstairs if you need me.”
“Careful,” Beatrice chuckles. “I need to perform for three nights here.”
“I missed you so much,” Ava peppers her face with kisses.
“I missed you too, my love,” Beatrice gives her a long passionate kiss.
“What do you want to do today?” Ava breathes when they pull away.
“I think you know,” Bea breathes too.
“Let’s go to my room,” Ava looks at her with hooded eyes.
Later, while they lay in bed naked and tangled in bedsheets, Beatrice tells Ava something. “I think I’ll be able to sleep soundly for the next days.”
“What do you mean?” Ava asks, tracing her fingers on Bea’s back.
“I haven’t been sleeping good since we were apart,” Beatrice admits. “Camila had a doctor prescribe me some sleeping pills.”
“Bea, why didn’t you tell me?” Ava looks at her in concern.
“That’s exactly why,” she traces her fingertips on the corner of Ava’s eye. “I didn’t want you to worry. I know you’ve been very occupied in shooting. I don’t want to add up to it.”
“But Bea, you still should have told me,” Ava softly tells her. “We are partners, remember? You should tell me this kind of stuff.”
“I know, I realize that now,” Bea says. “I’m sorry.”
“You will never be a bother to me, ever,” Ava tells her. “Remember that, okay?”
“I will,” Beatrice snuggles to the crook of her neck.
“I will admit that days feel way too long without you,” Ava says. “Especially the nights. Even after I have talked to you over the phone. I probably won’t be able to sleep too if I wasn’t dead tired after shooting.”
“But we survived,” Beatrice kisses her jaw.
“We still got a few months to go,” Ava says. “But I’m confident we can make it.”
“It will all be worth it,” Beatrice agrees.
The next day, Beatrice has a free day so she visits Ava on set. Lilith isn’t supposed to be there since she has no scenes to shoot. Mary and Shannon greet her and jokes that Ava probably would be two-hundred percent better because she is present. They all catch up while the crew sets up the first scene. Beatrice was really impressed by the production design and the costumes. It was a joy to watch Ava disappear into her character. Bias aside, Beatrice thinks Ava is really a wonderful actress.
Later, they get invited on the cinematographer’s birthday party in a bar nearby. Their fun was short-lived when Lilith showed up. Of course, someone invited her too. Her face lit up when she saw Beatrice.
“Hello,” she smiles when she got to where Ava, Beatrice, Mary and Shannon were sitting.
“Hi,” they all collectively wave at her.
“Do you mind if I sit with you guys?” she asks.
They all glance at each other for a second.
“Sure,” it’s Ava who answers.
“Nice to see you again, Beatrice,” Lilith says.
Beatrice just gives her a polite smile and raises her bottle of beer a little.
They were quiet for a moment before Lilith speaks. “Well, I’m going to get a drink.”
“Gods, this is going to be along night,” Mary chuckles.
“And you’re already tipsy,” Shannon comments.
“Don’t you dare leave us with her,” Ava says.
“It’s okay, I’m not going to drink anymore,” Mary leans on Shannon’s shoulder. “I don’t want to sleep on the couch.”
They all laugh.
“What’s funny?” Lilith asks when she comes back with two bottles of beers in hand.
“Oh, you know Mary,” Shannon tells her. “She’s on with her antics again.”
“You look drunk,” Lilith comments.
“I’m just tipsy,” Mary says. “I’m not drinking anymore.”
“Good, because we have a very intense scene tomorrow,” Lilith says.
“Oh, I have been waiting for that scene,” Ava smirks.
“What scene?” Beatrice asks curiously.
“A confrontation between the two Jeans,” Ava gives Beatrice a knowing look.
She immediately gets what it is. She fights the urge to laugh. She knows it’s the scene where Mary’s Jean will kick Lilith’s Jean’s ass.
“Should be exciting,” Mary smiles.
“Beatrice, how is your tour so far?” Lilith changes the subject.
“Great,” Beatrice answers. “I just miss this one so much it’s killing me,” she kisses Ava’s cheeks and smiles.
“Uh, are you excited to perform here on the weekend?” Lilith asks. “I heard you are the first act to sold out two and three shows in a single tour.”
“I’m always excited to perform my songs to my fans,” Beatrice says, putting her arms around Ava’s shoulder. Ava intertwines her hands to hers.
“I’ll be watching Friday night,” Lilith tells her.
“Thank you for your support,” Beatrice gives her a small smile.
They all fall into small talk after that. Ava and Beatrice were always touching each other that Ava noticed made Lilith very annoyed. She tried to hide it but Ava can see through her. It made her laugh inside.
At eleven, they all decided to call it a night since they have a shoot tomorrow.
“Did you see Lilith’s face?” Ava asks as she did her skincare in the hotel vanity.
“You mean the way she looks constipated or something?” Beatrice chuckles, getting out of the shower.
“Yeah,” Ava laughs.
“I don’t feel bad,” Beatrice shrugs, drying her hair with the towel. “She did it to herself.”
“She keeps on trying to hit on you,” Ava says. “When is she going to give up?”
“Let her,” Beatrice kisses her head and puts her hand on Ava’s shoulder. She slowly peels back her bathrobe. “Even if I had enough of you, which will never happen,” she leaves light kisses on her left shoulder. “I will never look her way. Ever. Not in any lifetime.”
“I know that,” Ava turns around and pulls Beatrice’s naked body close to her. She kisses her stomach.
“Ava,” Beatrice breathes.
Ava disregards her bathrobe and kneels in front of Beatrice.
The only sound heard next were passionate moans.
