“Bea, have you seen this?” Camilla pass on her iPad to Beatrice who was gently strumming her guitar while sitting on the lavender couch in the studio. She has just finished rehearsing with the band in a studio in Los Angeles and she can’t quite figure what chord was off with one of the songs. She has been at it for a few minutes now.

“What now?” she asks as she put the guitar on the couch and took the iPad. “More speculations about the music video?” she chuckles a little.

Camilla sits next to her. Her curly locks are in disarray and her clothes were crooked. Camila forgets her appearance when she’s busy running around doing errands. Beatrice made a mental note to treat her assistant and very dear friend to a spa day before the tour starts. “No. News about Ava,” she sighs.

Beatrice reads the article and the comments. “Oh,” was all she could say.

“Maybe you should call her,” Camilla suggests.

“What for?”

“Bea, you used to be best friends,” Camila says.

Beatrice disregards the iPad and takes her guitar again. She starts strumming again. “Hmm, what the heck is wrong with this song?”

“Bea.”

“What?”

“Did you hear me?”

“I’m busy, Cam,” Beatrice says. “Maybe I should change it… But it worked in the recorded version. Maybe we should switch one of the rhythm guitars to acoustic. Cam, have you seen my phone? I need to call Yasmine and tell her about some changes.”

“You can say it to her tomorrow,” Camilla says, irritated. “You have band practice again tomorrow.”

“What’s up with you?” Beatrice raises an eyebrow at her.

“What’s up is your best friend is going through a divorce right now and you won’t give a single shit about it,” Camilla throws her hands in the air in frustration.

“Ex-best friend,” Beatrice rolls her eyes. “You are my best friend.”

“How can you be so cold?”

“She broke my heart!” Beatrice snaps.

“She didn’t, Bea,” Camilla shakes her head. “You know she didn’t.”

“How can you defend her?” Beatrice scoffs.

“Because she was a close friend. We were all friends. We went through some shit together. You, Ava, Michael and me, didn’t we?” Camilla’s voice cracks. “How could you just forget that?”

“I don’t,” Beatrice looks up, obviously trying to fight back tears. “Would I be still this messed up if I did?”

“You need to call her,” Camilla says, picking up her iPad and her bag on the side table. “She needs you. She wouldn’t have gotten married anyway if not because of you. You know that.”

Beatrice deeply sighs as Camilla walks away. She knows she’s right but she will never tell her that. She took her guitar and put it in its stand. She took up her things and made her way home.

When she was about to start the car, her phone rings. “Hello?”

“Hi! I’m just calling to ask you what you want for dinner?” Michael asks from the other line.

“Whatever you got cooking is fine,” Beatrice answers.

“Rough band rehearsal?” he asks, feeling the tiredness in her voice.

“Yeah,” Beatrice says. “I’m on my way home. See you.”

“Drive safely,” he reminds her.

“I will. See you in a few,” Beatrice hangs up. Her phone pings.

“Please, talk to her,” Camilla has sent her a text.

“Damn it to hell,” Beatrice mutters as she starts her car and drives home.

One of the perks of being in a “relationship” with Michael Salvius is not just he’s a very charming Oscar-nominated actor but he’s also a great cook. Beatrice feels like she’s eating in a Michelin star restaurant every time he cooks.

It also doesn’t hurt that besides his amazing personality, he looks like an angel sent down from heaven with his wavy blonde locks and ocean-blue eyes. Beatrice could use a thousand words to describe how pretty he is.

“Good?” Michael chuckles as Beatrice sighs happily, tapping her stomach gently.

“The best as usual,” Beatrice chuckles too. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” he smiles. “How was your day?”

Beatrice just shrugs. “Usual band rehearsal.”

“Is the stage design done yet?” Michael asks. “Is it as massive as your Rumors Tour?”

“I have not yet seen the progress, but it will be a combination of all my past tours for sure,” Beatrice smiles a little.

“Please tell me you’ll bring back the giant snake,” he grins.

“I’m sure it will make an appearance,” Beatrice grins too. “How about you, how was your day?”

“We just had a table read,” Michael said. “I think they made a mistake casting Rowan as Erana. She will not get the character’s essence because she’s still biphobic. I hope the director sees it. Or else we won’t be in next year’s Oscars.”

“But it was good overall?”

“Yes,” Michael answers excitedly. “This is really a great film. I’m glad I said yes.”

“Are you ready to finally debut how you can love another man on the screen?” Beatrice wiggles her eyebrows at him.

Michael blushes. “Paul Mescal is really handsome.”

“What would Hans think?” Beatrice asks, fake scandalized.

“Oh, please, he’ll get off on it,” Michael laughs. “He has a big crush on him ever since Normal People came out.”

“Maybe you should try inviting him for a threesome once filming begins,” Beatrice laughs.

“Bea! You sing your songs with that mouth?”

“Oh, zip it,” Beatrice continues to laugh. “I know you’re thinking about it. I know you way too much.”

“Ok, you got me,” Michael laughs.

After she cleaned up the dishes, she fed her three cats their dinner. Then, she went to the living room to say good night to Michael. She hears the news of Ava’s divorce on the TV.

“Bea, did you know about this?” Michael asks.

“Earlier. Cam showed it to me.”

“Are you going to call her or what?”

“Why do I need to call her?” Beatrice throws her hand in the air like Camilla did earlier in exasperation.

“She’s your best friend.”

“Ex best-friend,” Beatrice corrects. “Ex-lover, ex-muse and all the other exes you can think of.”

“You know that’s not true. If you’re over her, you wouldn’t be this bitter,” Michael says. He stands up and turns off the TV. “You need to call her, Bea,” he hugs her. Beatrice hugs him back, tight.

“I don’t know if I can do it,” Beatrice whispers. “I don’t know if I could do it all over again.”

“After all the things you have put out since you two turned your back on each other, maybe this time it will be different,” Michael says, stroking her back. “More and more people know and they have different perspective about it now.”

Beatrice pulls away and Michael wipes her tears. She didn’t realize she was crying.

“As your boyfriend, I am advising you to talk to her,” Michael says. “It would do you both good. You’ve both suffered enough.”

“Okay,” Beatrice nods.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me,” Michael says. “My boyfriend is waiting at the Bar La Vasseur. I promised him I’ll go tonight.”

“Have fun,” Beatrice cracks a smile. “Stay safe.”

“I will,” Michael laughs. “Remember, it’s still early in New York,” he made a calling gesture before getting his jacket that was draped on the couch and going out the door.

Instead of going to bed, Beatrice slumps on the couch and turns back the TV on. She flips through the channels until she found a news site that’s talking about Ava’s divorce. One of her cats, Brad sat on her lap and purred. She pets him.

“Now Matteo, let’s backtrack about this Ava-JC-relationship, shall we?” the female host says.

“Yes, Chanel we can certainly do that,” Matteo says. “Ava met JC in Beatrice Young’s music video if my memory serves me right. 2016, I think?”

“Yes, that’s right,” Chanel said. “Beatrice and Ava met in a shooting of a music video as well for Ava’s breakthrough movie. That’s where they started their friendship and Ava became a frequent star to Young’s music videos and then JC came into the picture eventually.”

“This was five years ago-ish,” Matteo says. “They have been on and off for two years. They have also dated other people in between.”

“I would say they were like Miley and Liam,” Chanel chuckles. “It was a surprise to everyone when they suddenly got married in Vegas just before the pandemic hit.”

“They even held an intimate wedding when things loosened up, right? Such a shame,” Matteo commented.

“That’s right Matteo,” Chanel pointed at him. “Now she’s all alone in that fancy New York apartment she once shared with her best friend.”

“I wonder what happened to them?” Matteo says. “They were so close. Inseparable even. Then Beatrice just moved back to LA and she didn’t even go to their wedding.”

“They also stopped posting pictures with each other and they weren’t spotted at all,” Chanel remarks. “Who does she got now? Her parents are in Spain and I heard they weren’t exactly speaking. They weren’t at the wedding as well. All Ava’s friends are here in LA.”

“I hope Ava Silva is staying strong right now,” Matteo says. “Well, speaking of Beatrice Young, she just released a music video last week and when return, we’ll show a little behind-the-scenes on her ongoing tour rehearsals.”

“She’s the biggest singer right now so stay tuned!” Chanel smiles and it cuts to the commercial.

“You don’t know shit,” Beatrice mutters as she turns off the TV. She puts Brad down and makes her way to her bedroom.

After she took a warm bath, she settled on her bed. All of the three cats went to cuddle with her. She was very tired but she can’t bring herself to sleep. She took her phone and sat by the window. The sun is just starting to fully set outside. She sighs and picks up her phone. There was a part of her wishing that she would not pick up.

“Hello?”

“Hi.”

“Bea, you called,” Ava breathes. Beatrice could hear the relief in her voice.

“How are you holding up?” Beatrice asks casually.

“I’m fine,” Ava answers. “I deleted all my social media apps for now.”

“Good,” Beatrice nods to herself.

“It’s for real this time,” Ava says after a moment. “We’re not getting back together.”

“Uh-huh.”

“He’s moving to London to focus on theater and I’ll probably move back to LA in a couple of weeks,” Ava informs her. “I just finished reading this amazing script and I am getting the lead part and I’m getting that Oscar.”

There was a moment of silence after that.

“I want you back,” Beatrice suddenly says.

Another silence.

“Ava, I’m sorry,” Beatrice says. “I know it was all my fault. I should have not pushed you away. I fucked up and I’m sorry.”

“If I am to take you back, I don’t want to hide anymore, Bea,” Ava says. “I just want to be who I am with who I want to be.”

“I know,” Beatrice says. “I want you to know I’m ready. I am ready to be with you and I’m ready for everyone to know.”

“You’ll have to wait for me though,” Ava says. “Until this all blows over at least.”

“And you’re going to be worth the wait,” Beatrice says.

“I love you,” Ava says, her voice cracking. “I miss you so much.”

“I miss you too, my Ava,” Beatrice sobs on the phone. “I love you. I have been such a fool.”

“We both were,” Ava chuckles a little.

“See you here in LA soon?”

“See you soon.”

When Beatrice woke up, she wasn’t sure if she wants that dream to be real or not. All she feels at that moment is the ache in her chest. An ache despite what she makes herself believe was Ava’s fault, it was hers. Before she dwells in it too much, she got up and got ready for another band rehearsals.

“Good morning, Cam,” Beatrice greets her when she saw her leaning on the entrance of the studio, taking a hit of her vape. “What? I’m not late, am I? Also, you need to quit that.” Camila narrows her eyes at her.

“Morning, Miss Bea,” a couple of musicians greet her as they passed by.

“Morning, everyone,” she smiled at them. “What?” she asks Camila again.

“You didn’t call her, didn’t you?”

“Of course not,” Beatrice says. “What do I even say to her? Congrats on your divorce? I want you back, please come back to LA. That kind of shit?”

“So, you still do want her back?” Camila breaks into a little smile.

“Stop,” Beatrice rolls her eyes. “Let’s just focus on rehearsals right now, okay?”

“Sure,” Camila almost snorts.

“Ah, Yasmine!” Beatrice greets her most trusted producer as she got out of her car. Yasmine flashes her signature warm smile. She’s wearing her wavy hair in a low ponytail today and was sporting a simple white blouse and ripped jeans.

“Well, hello, Bea. We just saw each other yesterday! What’s with the enthusiasm?” she chuckles.

“I just want to talk about Jewels,” Beatrice drapes her arm around Yasmine as they walked inside the studio. “I think we need to switch up one rhythm guitar to acoustic.”

“I was about to talk to you about that,” Yasmine says as they walk in. “Jack suggested it to me yesterday when you got very frustrated. He was scared to tell it to you so he told it to me.”

“Okay, great,” Beatrice smiles. She puts her bag in the lavender couch. “I feel great about today’s rehearsals.”

“Oh, you heard about Ava, right?” Yasmine suddenly asks. “How is she holding up?”

“I don’t know or care,” Beatrice waves her hand.

“Pardon?” Yasmine asks in confusion.

“She’s obviously still bitter,” Camila says as she slumps on the couch.

I don’t know I could understand but I don’t care?” Yasmine sits with Camila. “Wow, Beatrice Young.”

“Why am I the villain?” Beatrice asks. “I am not the one who broke them apart!”

Camila and Yasmine just glance at each other.

“Can we not talk about her anymore today?” Beatrice sighs. “We are here to rehearse so we rehearse, okay?”

“Sure,” Yasmine stands up and goes to call the attention of the band.

Camila just shakes her head to Beatrice.

All throughout the day, Beatrice focused her frustrations to practicing. They changed a lot of approach especially to her old songs that she put on the setlist.

When she got home, she sees Michael playing with her three cats. He’s taking pictures as he teases them with toys.

“Come on Ellen, Mariska and Brad, you can project better than that,” Michael says.

“What the heck are you doing to my children?” Beatrice laughs. “Did you get the consent of their mother for this photoshoot?”

“People are wondering about them,” Michael shrugs. “They are speculating that Ellen has died even.”

“What the hell?”

“That’s why I plan to post a little something on my story,” Michael shrugs again. “And also, after your gay as fuck music video, your remaining heterosexual fans need something to hold onto so they won’t go insane.”

“I used to ask you so much to cover for me when I get impulsive before huh?” Beatrice smiles a little. “Areala would yell at me and you would post or do something as a subtle damage control even though you really hate social media.”

“I’ll do it forever if you want me to,” Michael stands up and takes her hand. “I love you, Bea. You are the best companion and friend I could ask for. I’d take a bullet for you.”

“And I would do the same,” Beatrice says. She sits down and takes Mariska on her lap. Michael sits next to her. “Do you ever get tired of living like this?” she suddenly asks.

“Living with you? Never.”

“I mean the hiding. The pretending? I mean we both agreed that our relationship is legit but you know…” Beatrice looks at Michael in the eyes. He suddenly looks down then out the window.

“Of course,” he admits. “But it’s the price I pay to pursue my dreams. You make it easier though.”

“What will you do once you finally get that golden statue?”

“Maybe I’ll finally come out, confirm what most people suspect,” Michael chuckles. “Maybe I’ll go to Hans’ club instead of the lavish after parties and just make out with him in the middle of the dance floor and let every paparazzi take a picture of us.”

“Imagine the headlines,” Beatrice laughs.

“But seriously, after hearing about Ava, I have considered coming out. I think I’m ready. I think I have proven myself enough in the industry that my sexuality is just a small part of it, you get what I mean? It’s obviously a big part of me but my acting chops should be what people should see because it’s my job,” Michael tells her.

“I get what you mean,” Beatrice nods. “But it’s different if you’re a woman.”

“Sadly,” Michael agrees.

“You talked to her, didn’t you?”

“I did earlier,” Michael confesses. “Are you mad?”

“No,” Beatrice shakes her head. “You’re her friend too.”

“She’s fine,” Michael tells her. “Her voice was fine. They have been separated for months now anyways. They just did their best to delay the news.”

Beatrice just nods. She felt a sense of relief.

“She asked about you,” Michael says, twiddling his thumbs.

“What did you say?” Beatrice asks.

“I just said you’re busy with tour rehearsals,” he says. “She said she loves you new album. She asked if I have the tour schedule and I gave it to her.”

“Why? It will be announced the day after tomorrow.”

“I think she wants to see you,” Michael says. “She mentioned about knowing someone at TicketNet and getting early tickets since she knows you’ll probably going to crash their site.”

“She wants to see me?”

“You don’t want to?”

“I don’t know.”

“You two really need to talk.”

“I don’t know what to say to her,” Beatrice admits finally.

“You used to talk about anything under the sun,” Michael says. He stands up and puts a hand on her shoulder, “Just call her. It will be fine.”

Beatrice only nods.

“Just heat up the casserole I made earlier for dinner,” Michael tells her. “I’m going to a dinner meeting for another possible film.”

Beatrice is still sitting on the living room when Michael finished getting ready.

“Don’t wait up,” he kissed her head before heading out.

At six o’clock, Beatrice heats up the dinner. She is squatting on the floor, watching the casserole in the oven. Ellen sits next to her and purrs. “I know, I miss her too,” she mutters.

Later sitting in the bathtub, she reaches for her phone and looks for her number in her contacts. She dialed and put her phone in her ear.

On the third ring, she picks up.

“Ava? Hi,” Beatrice breathes.

“Bea,” she breathes too.

This time, it wasn’t a dream.
