Chapter 66
"I talked to Maria. Nat's has no idea where her grandmother might be. She's going to keep looking for Peggy, though. In case Dottie does get involved in this, Peggy's the only one who can hopefully keep her from causing a disaster." Coulson said as he rejoined the group.
"Not sure how well, that's going to work out, with Peggy happily causing a disaster of her own at the moment." John said with a chuckle. He really hoped the property insurances had finally dropped that Peggy clause or the city was in big, big trouble. He was just glad that he wasn't there at the moment, after his last involvement in a Red Fedora incident.
"Well, it's better than having her try to hunt down her grandmother who we have no idea how to control even if we could find her." Phil said testily. "Melinda, no luck with getting in touch with your mother?"
"I'm very sure my mother is having the time of her life. The last thing she would want to do would be taking a call from me telling her to get to Shield." Melinda grumbled as she glared at her phone. Her mother was with Peggy and if Dottie Underwood got involved…. "I actually think my mother might have worked with Dottie before. I know she's always claimed she was interesting." And wasn't calling Dottie Underwood interesting the understatement of the millennium?
"Maybe age will have slowed her down a bit?" Phil said in a faintly hopeful tone. "It has been a bit since there's been a report of Underwood being active."
"That probably just means that she's been hiding the bodies better." John said with a laugh.
"And it isn't like age has slowed Peggy down." Melinda grumbled. "If anything, age has made her worse."
"It probably hasn't made her worse, though." John said. "It's just made people underestimate her more, so it seems worse."
"Either way, it's not good." Melinda muttered. Dottie Underwood might potentially get involved in this disaster and Andrew was out there somewhere looking for Peggy and her mother. Oh, this was a total disaster. She dialed her mother's number again. "Mother, pick up the phone this minute! Andrew is out there looking for you after you took his car! Answer the your phone!"
"Is there anything else that Maria wants us to do?" John asked. "I mean, anything besides taking care of everyone here?"
"Unless one of us can come up with some idea of where Peggy might have gotten off to, I don't know what else we can do at the moment." Phil replied.
"I could call Trip back and see if anything's came to him if you think that might help." John offered. "I'm pretty sure Peggy's annoyed with all of her relatives right now but…. Wait, she's kidnapped one relative already today. You don't think she would drop by to add a few more family members to her growing victim count, do you? Melinda, how big is Andrew's car, anyway?"
"Not that big. Hopefully not that big. Mother!" Voicemail yet again but surely at some point her mother would check her voice mail, if for no other reason than for her and Peggy to get a laugh about how everyone was responding to the situation
"It wasn't like she planned to kidnap Sharon." Phil said after a moment's thought. "Peggy probably wouldn't have taken her if she hadn't been there when she broke Nick out. As long as her other relatives don't do anything to draw Peggy's attention, I doubt she would try hunting them down."
"True." John said after a moment's thought. "Unless all of the excitement of kidnapping and grand theft auto get Peggy to thinking about how her family tried to take her guns away and she gets annoyed with them all over again. You know, I should probably give Trip a call anyway, see if he can warn them to be careful just to be on the safe side. We should probably at least try to keep Peggy from adding to her kidnapping list."
"You're really talking about a ninety something year old woman causing all of this chaos?" Banner said, a startled expression on his face. "Physically, how in the world is a ninety something year old woman even slightly capable of doing all of this?"
"You really, really don't want to know." Phil replied with a shake of his head.
"It's Peggy Carter. Kidnapping three people, shooting up a mental institution and stealing a car, that doesn't even make the top ten list of stuff she's done." John said with a laugh. "Phil, does it even make the top twenty?"
"It might make the top fifty, if only because of Nick." Phil replied.
"But still, she's ninety something." Banner said with a puzzled look.
"Don't think about her being ninety something." John told him. "That's the thing that gets everyone. They focus on the age and seem to forget that it's Peggy Carter. Just remember that, it's Peggy Carter and she should be feared at all costs."
Banner shook his head. Really, the entire situation didn't make any sense to him but it seemed like Coulson and the other agents weren't finding it nearly as strange as he did that a senior citizen was capable of causing all of this havoc. He made a mental note to have a talk with Steve later and ask a few questions about Peggy Carter. He had read a few things about her, of course, but why was he thinking now that those things had vastly downplayed the reality of the woman in question?
"John, it might be a good idea to call Trip again." Phil told him. "Ask him about Dottie. Maybe Peggy would have let something slip about where she might be."
"I'm can almost guarantee that Peggy hasn't let anything slip about that, or Shield would have heard about moving vans heading off in the opposite direction as fast as they could go." He paused, thinking about it. "They don't have a clue where Dottie is but I can ask some questions, see if mentioning her name might spark something. Peggy definitely knows where she is. Surely she would have dropped in or had some sort of contact with her, if for no other reason than to make sure that any trouble Dottie wants to cause is being directed the way Peggy wants. Maybe if I mention Dottie it might spark something."
"Do it. And hopefully Romanov will find Peggy before Dottie can get involved in this disaster." Coulson said. Natasha was good. She was frighteningly good. Surely if anyone could track down Peggy it would be her.
