Chapter 58

"Tripp? You got out of The Cube yet?" John said as soon as Tripp picked up the phone.

"No." Tripp told him. "What did you do to get out of here, anyway? Go out through the trash or something?"

"It worked." John said. "And it wasn't that bad. The new recycling programs really made the trash neater."

"Looks like I might be about to find out." Tripp said. "Did you just call to let me know that I'm going to be having an up close encounter with our trash system or do you have some news on what's happening with Fury and poor Sharon? Please tell me that Agent Hill found them!"

"No luck there. We're working on thinking up some ideas for where they could have gone, though. Are there any other Commandos relatives that Peggy could have gone to?"

"Dugan's grandkids. They would love to get involved in something like this. I'm pretty sure that they're up to something out in California right now though. I don't think they would have came to Agent Hand's funeral. How did that thing end up so crazy anyway?"

"Don't ask me. It seems almost like some sort of crazy game of telephone tag. I just hope Coulson's girls can keep Vic napping for awhile so she doesn't hear any more about the entire mess." John told him. "We can check out the Dugans. Even if they're not there, they might have some place there that Peggy could use for a hiding place for her growing group of kidnapping victims. Is there anyone else?"

"Falsworth's daughter Jackie." Tripp said, and then paled as something hit him. "John, has it occurred to anyone at Shield to check out the British embassy? I caught some of the footage of the funeral and weren't some of the royals there for it? You know she has friends in some high and alarmingly scary places. And I'm pretty sure that her alarming friend Lilibet has a grandson who's a pilot."

"So Peggy might be getting ready to cause an international incident." John said. "Well, I guess it's been a few years before she pulled one of those. She's probably overdue."

"If she does, you're calling my mother to explain about it." Tripp muttered. "John…."

"We'll find her. It will be fine." John replied. "I think it was a couple of the granddaughters who were at the funeral, anyway, not the grandson with the pilot's license. She couldn't have escaped that way. And she and Agent May's mother just stole Andrew Gardner's car. I don't think she would have done that if she had a plan to get air transport."

"I hope not. You might warn Agent Hill just in case though, see if she can get eyes on that embassy." Tripp looked down the hall as he spoke and spotted Bobbi heading for him. "I've got to go let Agent Morse know we're going to have to go play in the trash. If you find her…."

"I'll call. Just let Vic's girlfriend know she's okay as soon as you can. Don't worry about Peggy. We'll find her somehow."

"Could we just try not to find her on the 11 o'clock news with poor Sharon?"

"I'm sure that won't happen. A breaking news report, maybe. That's usually what they go with for her. I'll go tell Coulson what you suggested. And Rogers and Stark are helping too. Rogers knows her. Surely he can figure out where she might have gotten herself to."

"Tripp had some ideas." John called after ending the call and heading back to rejoin the group. "Phil, Hill's probably thought to get eyes on the British embassy in case she decides to pop up there, right?"

"That's right. Her friend Lilibet!" Steve said. "Is she in town? She would help Peggy for sure if she is. Peggy gave her a few pointers on driving once, when we were in England picking up intelligence on Hydra. Sweet kid. I was really glad to see she turned out so well."

"I wish I had known that before our little trip to Greenwich. It would have been good to know that the Asgardian stuff wasn't the most dangerous thing around." Phil said. "I'm sure Maria has eyes there, but I'll call to make sure. "Did Tripp have any other ideas?"

"Dugan's grandkids, or Falsworth's daughter maybe." John told him.

"Dum-Dum was always close to Peggy. Falsworth too. I can definitely see their families helping her." Steve said.

"I could have Pepper pull property records or go through some of my dad's old stuff to see if they might have some sort of connection to the area that Peggy could access." Stark offered. "She's looking through my dad's stuff now. Nothing's jumping out to her yet as some sort of designated hiding space but there are a lot of things to go through."

"Do that." Coulson told him. "I'll call Hill and make sure she's got that embassy covered." And maybe afterwards he ought to go up and warn Jemma that her country's queen had taken driving lessons from Peggy Carter. She might need to call her parents and issue a few warnings to them about staying off the road.
