Flowing Fabric

The fabric shop was only around the corner, so at least they did not have to walk a lot. Rabastan had caught up with them only a couple of steps before he was back at Mary’s side talking about his inheritance again. Mary was about to take the dagger out of the holster and slash his throat when they arrived at the shop. Mary was so relieved that she would have ran inside if she didn’t have on heels. The shop is small, but all of the walls are filled with different fabrics and there are stalls around with decorations and small samples and they have an area where they cut the fabric and a counter for paying. A woman with light brown hair was facing away from them, standing near one of the sample stalls in a simple blue dress with a white apron on. Mary recognized the woman as Sybill Trelawny from previous times she had gone here. She hears their footsteps and turns to face them with a giant grin on her face, and bows.

“Your Majesty.” She says in a shrill voice and curtseys.

“Sybil" Mary said politely. “I am looking for a patterned fabric for the upcoming ball. Perhaps something in the color forest green?”

“Of course your majesty I have just the one in mind, I shall go and fetch it now.” She says as they hurry off to the back. Mary walks around the store partly to look at the new ribbons that they had ordered recently and she had wanted to see, but mostly because she could see that Rabastan was going to start speaking again, and she knows that if he came over hear to talk to her she could choke him to death with a ribbon or at the very least imagine choking him while she zoned out. Mary was lucky enough to not have him follow her and she got to look at the ribbons in peace, and was actually able to find a forest green ribbon with gold embroidered flowers on it that she hoped would go with the fabric they were bringing her out. After a minute or so Sybill came back over to Mary with the fabric, and Mary could tell immediately that it matched the ribbon she was getting.

“Is this what you’d had in mind, your majesty?” She says as they hold out the fabric which Mary gives her the biggest grin she has and she sees her visibly relax.

”It is exactly what I wanted Sybill, thank you.” Mary says grinning the whole time.

”We will be checking out now. You have found all that you wanted.” Rabastan says as he crosses the room to the ribbon station.

Mary started walking towards Rabastan saying,“Actually I was just about to ask her if we could check out myself, but no thank you for doing that very simple task for me.” By the time Mary is done speaking she is standing directly in front of him, staring directly into his eyes, almost challenging him to say something. She can see that he is sweating buckets. He opens his mouth to say something but no words come out of his mouth. “That’s what I thought.” Mary says, still staring him dead in the eye, then turns on her heel and walks towards the paying counter, to buy the fabric and ribbon herself.
