Chapter 5

The room was filled with boxes, bottles filled the shelves with different kinds of medicine, it somehow intrigued Luna. It intrigued her for the first time in her life, she felt so curious about this. Luna did try to reach some of the medicine, she wanted to find out what they were for, but alas, she was too short to reach, then she got an idea. Luna got on top of one of the boxes and tried to look at the bottle’s label to find out what the contents inside of it were. When Luna looked at the labels, she couldn’t even tell what they were for, it frustrated her, but she knew she couldn’t be frustrated over everything. Luna got off the box and quietly opened the door, checking if anyone was there, and lucky for her, there wasn’t anyone.

She slipped out and went over to the main door that led to the hallway she was in before. Luna quietly opened the door and tiptoed back to her room, where Charlie was still sleeping. Luna sighed a breath of relief, knowing nobody knew she snuck out, not even her brother. She closed her door and shut it, making sure it never made a noise.

Charlie had already left when it was noon, and Luna was already bored again, she looked to her window where there was only sunny skies. Her temptation to leave though it was immense, but Luna knew she would be caught, after all, there’s thousands of guards guarding every place in the castle. That’s when she realized, guards were guarding every place in the castle except for some. The passageways, Luna knew this was dangerous, her brother might be in them, but this was her only chance, her only chance to escape, and she knew this was her only hope.

Luna grabbed an old map of the hidden passages and looked it over, she eventually found the right path that would lead her to the outside. She knew she would have to bring this with her incase she had to get back in or happened to get lost in the labyrinth of what she liked to call, “Annoying ass rat homes.” Now all she had to do was prepare.

Dusk was just about to hit when Luna was ready to leave, she knew that if she didn’t leave the cycle of cruelty would continue, so she shoved her bookshelf to the right and shuffled herself and her bag of stuff into the dark and dull passageway. Luna pulled a string she had attached to the bookshelf when she was young, and the shelf slid into place, now there was no going back for her.

She had to crawl on her hands and knees to fit though the part of the passageway she was in, but she was willing to, the ground was filthy, bugs creeped and crawled everywhere, her dress ripping by putting her knee onto it by accident when she was crawling, but Luna never stopped to care for any of it, she just had to keep going, keep going until she was out. Luna had a faint memory of this part, it reminded her of when she was little, crawling through these passageways to reach the garden before it was dug up. She missed that place, but she couldn’t mourn then, and she can’t stop to mourn now. Luna reached a dead end, but she has been there dozens of times to know the trick, she turned to her left, and kicked the wall.

The wall rumbled and slowly moved down, Luna quickly crawled through before it would go back up, she wasn’t in the mood to be eaten by the rats in the sewer right now. Soon enough Luna paused, hearing the footsteps of guards right above her, but it wasn’t on stone or wood, it was on dirt. Luna knew right then she was close to the exit, all she had to do now was keep quiet and get out, then she remembered about the fence, that pesky ass fence. Luna hoped she was finally tall enough to hop it this time.

The door flung open when Luna shoved it open, it landed with a thud, but it was quiet enough to not alert any guards. Luna carefully crawled out and closed the hatch, then she looked at the fence. She would still be way too short to hop it, so Luna looked around and saw a tree. She ran over and started to climb, she got high enough to jump over the fence but she was a bit nervous, Luna was high above the ground, and if she messed up even a little bit, she would get e paled or just go splat, but there was no time like the present so, she jumped.
