Ace hummed, as he looked at the information he had gathered on the people he was interested in. He would have to gather more information on the SOLDIERs who looked interested in teaming up with Cloud. He was relaxing in one of Aerith's gardens while humming a song. The flowers it seems bloomed more when there was music playing or maybe they sensed something from him like Aerith. Who knows with these weird plants that Aerith grew, not like he is judging. Everyone has their quirks after all. He looked up feeling a little strange, he was planning on leaving Midgar. There was a continent across the ocean in the North, he wanted to check.
Hojo was not having a good day, scratch that he was not having a good month. He had noticed the sniper that was making waves and wanted to use him as another specimen for his experiments. But, he was thwarted by the Director and now with Heidegger gone, thanks to that red head menace, he had been unable to get more specimens. Not to forget, Sephiroth thwarted all his attempts to get another one, that ungrateful, no good brat.
Hojo growled as another of his experiments failed once again. After Sephiroth, it had been almost impossible to recreate another super SOLDIER. Hojo left the lab and looked outside to where the rest of the infantry were congregating. His eyes went to the sniper that was making a name for himself currently. He could not remember his name but he saw the reports, he had unnatural sight. Hojo hummed as he was in deep contemplation. Hojo had seen the test results of the VR simulator and he knew, just knew there was something odd about that young lad.
No one had such unnatural accuracy unless they were enhanced but his results had come negative. It had stayed in the back of Hojo's head like a festering infection. Hojo had his suspicions about him and after seeing how easily he was able to use and cast magic he was sure. That blonde was a Cetra, had to be a Cetra, a normal human could not do what he could. Hojo had to have him no matter what happened, he would need to plan the perfect capture.
Cloud felt a chill go down his spine, 'What was that?'
Elena looked at him, "Something wrong Cloud?"
Cloud, "Um... I hope not. I mean, this mission is pretty straight forward, a little tiresome but straight forward."
Elena drawled, "Yeah, we just need to babysit Rufus."
Lomer a fellow infantry man piped up, "But the pay is good though."
Lucien laughed, "True the pay is good. Though admittedly I have heard some rumours about him."
Elena, "The ones about him joining avalanche? Yeah, I heard those too."
Cloud, "It's possible he has friends there."
Lucien was looking at him incredulously, "Isn't that farfetched?"
Cloud, "After knowing Ace for as long as I did? Nope! In this world anything is possible."
Elena mused, "It is a very possible scenario."
Cloud, "Right? I don't see any other reason for a rich kid to be involved with them unless emotions were involved."
Lucien hummed, "That sort of complicates things though, doesn't it?"
Lomer, "Eh! It's none of our business in the long run. We go in, we do our job, we leave. Why should we complicate things?"
Cloud, "I agree."
The group of four went on to fulfil their assignment, which normally was done by the Turks. Rufus Shinra was a very famous or infamous figure, depending on who you asked. He was well known as the heir to Shinra company and lately for rumours about joining Avalanche. Cloud was curious about his reasons why and wanted to poke around for answers. Cloud paused, it looks like he and Ace had more in common then he previously thought.
Cloud felt his ears turn pink, 'Really wish Ace did not pull Rufus around like a doll though.'
Rufus eyed his new guards with interest, 'Only one Turk? Curious. That must be Cloud.'
Rufus, "You must be Cloud, you are not a normal infantry."
Cloud nodded, "I specialize as a sniper, Sir."
Rufus turned to the SOLDIER, "Call me Rufus, Ace has told me a lot about you. I suppose, you are close to each other, SOLDIER?"
Lucien, "We are friends sir, I trust Cloud."
Rufus, "Interesting, I suppose you are close to them too, Turk?"
Elena straightened, "Yes sir, we have shared missions together. I trust them to keep my back covered."
Lomer, "I think, I speak for everyone when I say we are friends, Sir."
Rufus, "Friends, huh?"
Cloud eyed him, thinking about their previous chat, and wondered how much of it hit the nail in the head. The blonde had suspected Rufus might have been involved with someone in Avalanche emotionally. He wonders who the person might have been for him to go out of his way to help. Lomer decided that Rufus talking to them was his que to become a nonstop chatterbox. They completed the mission with Lomer telling Rufus about every little gossip on topside and plateside. Lomer was one of the soldiers at Wutai and had watched the showdown between General Genesis and Heidegger.
That had perked Rufus up quite visibly and Lomer gave him details of what went down that was not in the official report. Elena had listened in as well curious about what happened at the war front while Lucien scowled. He hated Heidegger for the shit he had pulled on them and was thankful for the General. He had started to practice his magic more after returning from Wutai. In fact many had started practicing magic after Genesis returned a hero. Cloud headed back after the mission was done feeling he was being watched by someone.
Lucien, "Something wrong?"
Cloud, "I feel watched."
Lucien narrowed his eyes, "I guess, I was not paranoid."
Cloud, "Should we confront them? Or run?"
Lucien, "I don't think we can run."
Cloud looked, "Those are not SOLDIER uniform but their eyes."
Lucien, "Yeah, let me send a quick text."
The two went to one of the alleyways and climbed up the walls to get to the other side. They saw the people who were following him and Cloud frowned. They looked like SOLDIERs but there was something wrong about them. Cloud felt a chill go down his spine when they turned their dead looking eyes to them. Lucien parried a sudden attack and shouted at Cloud to run but Cloud refused. The two fought back but they were soon overwhelmed by them and the last thing Cloud saw, was Lucien getting stabbed. Then everything turned black!
