Diluc was having a normal day in the bar. He knew that today was the anniversary of his fathers death… and the day he disowned his brother. Thinking back on it years later he regrets that decision. His brother, his only family spilled his biggest secret, hoping to not carry the wishes of a dead nation alone on his back. Hoping that Diluc will help him carry it.
And instead of doing anything he tried killing him… Neither him or Kaeya were in the right mindset for that conversation but even so he shouldn't have lashed out.
Now all that's left of his brother is a clearly empty shell… one that clearly yearns for his brother yet he doesn't have any hope. He knew he should talk to his brother. He knew he should but Kaeya was an expert at slipping away. Always busy, always talking to him in public… where they couldn't talk.
That night as he was working he noticed Kaeya wasn't here. No matter what day it was, he always came to see Diluc. Drink some death after noon and occasionally passing out on the bar. (If kaeya noticed he was home wrapped in his coat he never mentioned it. JUst left it to charles to give it back to him). His gut was telling him something was wrong. To him this day was a day where he remembered his dad.
He had long accepted that he's dead and that wasting his life away thinking otherwise isn't productive.
Yet this day brought him a reminder of his past mistakes.
After he finished his shift, he followed his gut and went out as the darkknight hero. He knew something ought to be wrong yet he didn't know what. As he looked towards the statue of that bard he noticed someone in the outstretched hands. It didn't worry him, it was quite normal that people on late night walks climbed up there.
But then the figure jumped off, cryo vision shining on the person's belt. For a second he froze…. He knows of two cryo wielders in Mondstadt, and they didn't look like Diona.
Diluc ran forward. He knew he could catch them but he might be able to save them if they didn't fall head first. HIs heart pounded as he pleaded to the gods that it wasn't his brother.
When he reached the statue he was met with a gresque view . One that stunned him as he recognized the person.
Itwas Kaeya. His little brother had attempted to kill himself.
“No no no.. c'mon Kae this isn't a game.”
He noticed then that he hit the ground head first… crushed skull bleeding profusely. He then rushed forward. Checking the pulse.
“C'mon Kae this isn't funny.”
It was barely there…. than not.
“no nO NO! CMON KAE WAKE UP! This isn't funny…” his voice trailed off being replaced by sobs.
He held the body of his last relative close. Tears soaking the red stained blue hair letting out crushed wails.
Jean was sleeping peacefully cuddled with Lisa when he heard the wails.
“Honey, go back to bed, I'll see who it is.” Assured the librarian.
“I have a bad feeling about this. I’m coming with you.” Both got up, put on their bathrobes and went to see what caused the loud cries. They knew that because there wasn't any alarm that it wasn't an attack.
When they arrived at the statue they were mortified by the sight.
Diluc was holding a bloody person, muttering to them between sobs. There was a vision on the ground near there feat. Lisa picked it up, hand starting to shake when she noticed that it was missing a set of wings.
It was Keayes vision… and it was extinguished…
No other vision in Mondstadt looked like that… He had died
Jean tore her gaze away from the lifeless vision, looking towards Diluc. She took Lisa’s arm, who was stuck looking at the vision, trembling like newborn deer, and pulled her towards Diluc. She knelt down and hugged him, while also bringing Lisa with her.
Barbara was sleeping peacefully when she heard the commotion. By the time she arrived at the statue all she saw was a large amount of blood, a sobbing Diluc and Jean and Lisa who was staring at a gray vision.
As she walked closer she saw the worst thing she could imagine… no-one noticed she was there, she fell down to her knees as she sobbed. She could heal almost anything but even she couldn't bring back the dead.
Even so she tried her healing on him.
It didn't work
She had lost her unofficial big brother.
Noelle rushed to the scene with Fishl. They were neighbors so when they heard the screams they both decided to go check it out and had ran into each other outside.
They saw Barbara also arrive, though they couldn't focus much on her. They were more concerned about the Grandmaster, Master Diluc, Miss Lisa and person in Dilucs arms.
They went towards Barbara, when they noticed her falling. As they made sure she didn't hurt herself they looked towards what made her fall… only to find Keaya’s lifeless bloody body in Dilucs arms.
They stared, shocked before also starting to cry. Keyea was the unofficial big brother of all Mondstatd children…
Albedo, Sucrose and Klee were in Dragonspine when they got the message of Kaeyas passing and now they were heading back for the funeral that was held the day after his passing. All of the people who Diluc knew Keaya cherished and who Keaya cherished would be there.
Sucrose has been quiet the whole day and he himself wasn't doing any better. Klee has been bugging him and Sucrose to tell her why they are so sad… yet he can't bring himself to answer her… to tell her her big brother is dead….
“Klee, the reason me and Sucrose are so sad is because brother Kaeya is going on a looong trip. You won't be seeing him for a long time.” He settled on that. “Let's get you with that granny you like while me and Sucrose attend some business.”
“Okay.” She responded.
Later at the funeral silent tears ran down his face, while Sucrose bawled next to him.
Razor and Bennett had heard of the news the next morning, when Diluc sent the messages out for the funeral. They attended, crying all day.
To Bennett Keaya was a big brother, a person who belived in him… a person who kept him trying even when he fucked up the worst and seeing the baeshed head of the glorious head laying in the coffing he couldnt believe his eyes… yet he had to.
Razor didn’t fully understand what he was feeling. He knew that lupical passed away… but he didn't understand why he was feeling so empty… why all he wanted is to curl up and cry.
In the end they both ended up going home with Diluc(at said man's offer) so that he could tell them all the beautiful things his little brother did when he was younger.
