Chapter 1
“Let’s do this.” Snake and Wolf both say at the same time. The whole gang walked outside to be greeted by the sand and stood in the warmth of the sun. A bird passed by as they waited. The whole prison was isolated from the rest of the world.
“Has it really been a year?” Wolf mumbled to himself.
“It went by quick.” Snake replied as he looked off into the distance.
“It feels like it’s only been a few months,” Shark says excitedly, “I can’t wait to see the chief again!”
“I’m sure she missed us, not! Ha!” Piranha said between his laughter.
The roar of an engine caused everyone to turn. Dust appeared which caused everyone to cough for a moment. Wolf fanned out the dust and looked at the driver. “Diane! What a surprise!” He said as the formal fox walked out of the car.
“I brought you something, Wolf.” Diane said as the orange car jumped out of her arms to Wolf. The cat mewed as it looked at Wolf.
“I missed you too.” Wolf said quietly so the gang wouldn’t tease him later.
“Why so formal?” Asked Tarantula.
“It’s a special occasion.” Replied the fox.
“Ha! You’re hilarious!” Piranha said loudly.
“Are we going to go or what? The guards might change their mind about letting us go.” Snake said very annoyed by all the chatter.
“Of course.” Diane said as she walked to the car.
They all piled up in the car. Wolf sat in the front while everyone else sat in the back. Diane pressed the gas and they were off. Wolf looked back at the prison which was getting smaller. He put his hand on the orange cat and started petting it. The cat purred and he smiled. The wind moved all of his fur which felt refreshing to him. He looked everywhere looking at the Sandy scenery. We really took everything for granted. Wolf thought to himself. Being in prison wasn’t so bad, yet it was so bland. Everything was the same, for every single day. They would wake up, clean up town, eat, then sleep. Just repeat for three hundred sixty five days and it did eventually get pretty boring. Sometimes at night, Wolf would look at the roof and wonder about his old life. He would end up regretting many stupid decisions but, it didn’t matter. He had to pay the price.
“No way!” Tarantula exclaimed.
They all looked around and gasped. It felt like a dream at the moment. They were finally home. They all looked around, heads going up, down, left, and right. They looked like kids in an amusement park, trying to get a glimpse of everything. They all saw the police department and automatically started laughing.
“So many memories, am I right?” Shark said between his laughter.
Everyone nodded in response to Shark. The cad stopped and everyone stopped laughing.
“We’re here!” Diane said as she got out of the car. In front of everyone was the nicest house any of them had ever seen. It was in the shape of a cube and it was two stories tall. The house was as white as a dove. It looked brand new. They all stepped out of the car and walked across the pavement. The grass was green as an emerald. Diane opened the door to the house. “Welcome.” They all walked inside and it was better than expected. It had the same vibe as Marmalade’s home.
“Race you!” Piranha yells and everyone runs while Diane and Wolf stay behind.
“Do you like it?” Diane asks.
“Of course!” Wolf replies.
“I wanted it to be perfect for all of you.”
“Trust me, it’s great.” Wolf says as he grabs her hand to reassure her.
They both look at each other awkwardly and then they both look down at their hands. Diane let’s go quickly of his hand and she looks at the ground, “Well, we better catch up, am I right?”
“Yeah.”
…
It was nighttime and everyone was asleep, well, except for Wolf. He looked at the roof and started blankly at it. The cat was under his arm, fast asleep. There was a sudden knock on the door, which startled Wolf.
“Come in.” He said, trying to sound calm.
Snake opened the door and made his way to Wolf’s bed.
“Couldn’t sleep?” Wolf said smugly.
“Yeah, you?”
“Of course I couldn’t! Just look at this place.”
“I feel ya buddy.”
“Do you want to talk about anything else?”
“This place is just a bit overwhelming, you know. What about you? Are you doing okay?”
“Not really.”
“Want to rob a place? It gets stress out really good!”
“Snake!”
“Kidding, seriously, what’s wrong?” Snake stared at him in a concerned way. Wolf looked back at him. They were best buds and he didn’t want to worry Snake since he normally takes Wolf’s problems seriously.
“Nothing, this place gives me a bit of anxiety.”
“Yeah. Are you sure that’s all you wanted to talk about?” Asked Snake.
“Yeah. You should probably head to bed. Try to get some sleep.” Wolf said as he put his hand on Snake.
“Okay, try to sleep as well buddy, night.” Snake says as he leaves the room.
“Night.”
The sound of the door being closed was heard and Wolf turned and looked at the huge window on his left. The city’s lights could be seen. They looked like stars. He closed his eyes to the beauty of those comforting lights.
