Day eight (Darcy/Phil)
It’s early when Darcy makes her way to the train station. She buys a one way ticket to Portland and goes to sit in the station hall as she waits for the train. She isn’t eager to go back to Portland but her mother insisted that she’d spend Christmas at home.
It’s been 4 years since she’s visited her family for Christmas and in truth she has kind of missed it. Last year she spend Christmas working and the year before that she spend it with Phil and his family. Her stomach aches the way it always does when she thinks of him and she chases the memories away. She keeps the tears at bay and refocuses on her own family. Her parents had told her that her niece is pregnant. She likes Sheila and is happy for the younger woman. Phil had wanted kids –No! She can’t go there. She can feel a tear run down her face and she quickly brushes it away. Her breath catches when she sees him. Phil! She blinks, standing up and looks but there is no one. She blinks again and searches the space, desperate for any sign of Phil but there isn’t any. She drops back down and force her tears to stay away.
She must have zoned out a little but she quickly gets up and makes her way to the train when they call it out over the speaker system. She chooses a seat near the window and cuddles up. It’s going to be a few hours until she gets home so she lets her tears fall as she leans against the window, eyes closed.
She never sees Phil Coulson watching her, with tears in his own eyes.
