Self-acceptance

She does not know how long she had been out but she figures no longer than a day when she picks up voices arguing talking about “last night.”

“Your daughter is a monster!

“She has killed a human, how do we know she won't kill any of us?”

“We have to watch our own backs around that monster now.”

Each voice said by a White Lotus guard with such disdain and venom in their voice. Despite those voices overpowering the conversation she could always recognize the voice of her father which held a tone of gruffness as he spoke back to the guards.

“My daughter is no monster. I don’t know what happened to her out there for this to happen but my wife and I, including Master Katara, will stand by this child's side.”

“Will you really not stand by her side even after all my husband has done?” That was the voice of Master Katara she heard. Korra does not know what she means by what Aang has done besides ending the 100 year war but once that was said she could just hear grumbling from the guards.

Her parents and Master Katara defended her, regardless of what happened.

But Korra? She was scared.

Her room was dark and the only source of light was a candle. Her window that she used to look out at when she stayed the night at the compound for training was now boarded up. That man, Muzan, was right.

She was in fact shrouded by the darkness.

She was a monster but he also said that she was special.

She was the Avatar and now, a special demon. She could not let him down.

After all was said and done, even despite the protests of her parents and Katara, she was not allowed to leave the compound except when she needed to feast. She had to be escorted by a couple of guards while she hunted animals. Korra had to push down the desire to eat humans deep deep down inside and lock it away. When Muzan learned of that though, he wasn’t too pleased but didn’t contest.

Even by doing that, they all regarded her with disgust by what she became. When she got older and started training with her fire and earth bending masters, she could tell they were afraid of her. It was “the eyes” they would say, the “claws”, the “teeth,” the “blue fire.” But Korra could blend in with society, she could revert her nails back if needed.

The only people to treat her the same as they always have were her parents, Master Katara, her daughter Kya and her two sons Bumi and Tenzin. Though it was not often she got to see Tenzin as he was a busy man or even Kya and Bumi.

The person to treat her as an equal though, was Muzan.

When she had turned 16 he came to visit her in the dark of the night when everybody was asleep except for her. There was no need for her to even sleep, not anymore.

He was enamored to see how strong she had gotten despite no longer feasting upon humans like the rest. He knew that he made her more powerful than she already was. The praise that he gave to her made Korra feel so good about herself, like she was doing something right and was proud. He promised her that he would take her outside the compound, which he absolutely detested which prompted their current conversation inside the infinity fortress where Korra found herself for the first time.

He was standing in front of her as she kneeled to him while making eye contact.

“My dearest Korra, I need you to know that you reign as much freedom as I and the rest of your fellow demons.” He caressed the top of her head as he looked down on her, “Tonight, I will make you a part of the 12 kizuki as Upper Rank One.”

Korra had known about the 12 kizuki through his memories though has never met any of them but now she gets to be a part of them. She gets to become the spot that has been empty since he created them.

“It would be my honor, Master Muzan.” She closed her eyes as he once again pushed his finger into her head. The familiarity of the action making her thrill with excitement. To be able to receive more of his blood was an honor.

As he pulled his finger out of her head, she blinked and in her eyes were the words in kanji.

In her right eye, Upper Rank and left, One

Upper Rank One

She was the strongest out of all the demons, she has received more blood than they all have from Master Muzan. She was special just like he said.

From then on, she had taken orders from him to kill demons that were bold enough to request more blood from him. She killed as if it were natural to her. She developed her blood demon art and got to know her fellow upper ranks.

When Nakime, the demon in charge of the infinity fortress, would teleport her from the fortress to different places in the nation, Korra studied the humans among her as she blended in to finish whatever job she was given.

These were the people the Avatar was sworn to protect, yet despite all the types of people she came across, she came up with the conclusion that humans can be wretched people, just like the White Lotus.
