She got her first full day to just chill, no school shit, no Eidolon shit and no awkward encounter with a well meaning straight boy shit. It was the perfect time to just skateboard around the parking lot letting the vibration from her board go through her body and level out her emotional state.
But today was having the opposite effect. Charlie is good at skateboarding, never gonna make money off it, but she considered herself good. She could do a no comply, a kickflip, even hit a grind after a try or two. But as she pushed on her board getting up the speed for the trick she could feel the laser focus eyes on her back causing her spirit to squirm.
She turned her focus to her car and locked eyes with the source of her anxiety. Regina had decided to just hangout with her today, which wasn’t super out of the ordinary but it felt different today. Maybe it was because Solo or everyone else wasn’t with them but the way the brunette looked at Charlie made her hair stand on end. It was just a gaze, that slightly annoyed gaze. Those green eyes looking at her like she was doing something stupid.
It wasn’t like Charlie took it personally, Regina looked at most people like that. If she was being honest with herself she actually found it kind of ho-
“FUCK!”. A stupid damn ass rock had caught itself under her front wheel when she was distracted by Regina. Charlie went tumbling forward managing to catch herself on her palms to stop her face from slamming into the asphalt. She had enough bandaids on her face already. She didn’t wanna have to look like a mummy by the time Monday came around. She pushed herself up and dusted herself off.
“Very smooth Charlie. I am extremely impressed.” Charlie could feel color come to her cheeks as she got flustered at the teasing. She picked up her board and went over towards Regina. The brunette’s normal slight grimace had turned into a mocking smile. A smile that did things to Charlie’s stomach that made her feel like she ate really old pizza again.
Regina removed her cigarette from between her lips and blew smoke off to the side. Charlie could never admit it but she liked when Regina smoked, it made her feel less like a loser for always focusing her eyes on the other girl’s lips. “Hey I am fucking good at this! It's just an off day, I don't see you trying.”
The brunette scowled again but in a more playful way and flicked her cigarette to the side before standing up off the hood of the car. “Then show me how.”
Charlie felt the color in her face and the feeling in her stomach grow stronger and stronger with each step her friend took towards her. Once she closed the space Regina went over to the skateboard and tentatively put one foot up on it. Charlie was almost like a zombie just watching her not saying a word. She suddenly swallowed and decided she needed to act normal and not like a gay disaster.
“Do you ride Regular or Goofy?”
“Charlie do I look like I have any idea what the fuck that means?”
Charlie let out an awkward chuckle. “Good point.”
Regina started to put her other foot up on the board and felt a wobble in her balance. She quickly reached her hand out and grabbed Charlie by the collar to balance herself. The skater shot her hands up to Regina’s waist to steady her.
“Ok, let's be careful and go about it slowly. I am gonna pull you along, just stay solid on the board.” Regina gave Charlie a curt nod and moved her hands from the collar of Charlie’s shirt and put her arms around her neck. She then laced her fingers for stability.
She slowly started to walk, pulling the brunette along with her. She was so worried her hands felt clammy from her nervousness, she had been close to Regina before but this felt different. The heat from the girl's hands on the back of her neck was driving Charlie over the edge. She was so worried she looked like a tomato from all the blood rushing to her face. She kept her gaze down at the board seeing her feet stepping slowly and Regina’s on the deck of the board.
When she finally turned her gaze up to Regina she saw something very surprising. Regina looked nervous, not like when they were dealing with an Eidolon but something else. She had a few beads of sweat on her forehead and a blush was forming across her cheeks and nose. She always thought Regina looked hot, anyone with eyes would. But like this, being this close to her in this position she looked cute.
Regina seemed to get shy under Charlie’s gaze and looked off to the side. “What exactly are you staring at?”
“Oh me? Nothing, nothing! Just, you look nice today.”
“I look nice everyday Charlie.”
Usually something like that would have annoyed her but all it did was make Charlie laugh. Regina looked back at her and gave a small laugh along with her. Before they knew it they were both still just coasting along holding onto each other and laughing. They had without noticing it gotten closer to one another, their faces a few inches apart.
At the realization they both stopped laughing and looked at each other. Charlie couldn’t stop her eyes from darting down towards Regina’s lips. She smelled so good, like a mixture of tobacco and cherries. Regina started to lean in a little closer to Charlie’s face when they suddenly felt a stopping force on the skateboard.
It was the damn ass rock again. Regina fully lost her balance and Charlie snatched her up off the board picking her up like a princess. Regina let out a gasp at the sudden movement.
Regina cursed under her breath and blew some of her tousled hair out of her face. “Skateboards are fucking stupid Charlie.”
