Professor X/Wolverine - "I Think I'm In Love With You And I'm Terrified"
“I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified.” It had to be said. It needed to be said. “I’m terrified about what’s going to happen, that you’re going leave me and not come back. That you’ll forget.”
Logan hesitated with his hand on the doorknob. “Chuck-” he began.
“Don’t,” Charles cut him off. “I don’t need… I just…” He rubbed at his temple, not trying to use his telepathy, just tired.
Logan cast one last longing look at the door, at freedom, before setting his gaze back on Charles. “I’m not the kind of guy for love darlin’,” he said cautiously. He looked down at the other man, Professor Charles Xavier, with his bright blue eyes and hopeful outlook on life, the mouth too quick to smile, the heart too quick to bleed.
“That’s a lie,” Charles told him bluntly, startling a laugh out Logan.
“Is it?”
Charles nodded. “Logan, look at what you’ve done here. What we’ve done here. You’re running because you’re scared too, but I can’t…” he paused. “I can’t do it alone. I’ve tried it before, we all know I’ve tried, but I can’t do it by myself. And you shouldn’t have to be alone either. We should both-” he was frowning again, trying to get the words to come, to work for him like they always did.
Logan sighed. Somehow these fragments of sentences were even more appealing than Charles’ charmingly put-together speeches.
“Stay,” Charles said finally, casting him a desperate look.
Logan couldn’t even find it within him to pretend to hesitate. “I’ll stay.”
For now, he added silently.
