Spider-Man/Iron Fist - "You Know, It's Okay to Cry"
"You know, it’s okay to cry.”
Peter didn’t know what else to say.
Danny had been sitting - curled up really, head buried in the knees of the legs he was hugging to his chest - on the edge of the school building for over an hour now.
Peter slid down next to him.
Ava had told him to leave it alone, that Danny needed time and space. But Danny always spent time alone, this wasn’t some meditation or something.
Danny was upset, and Peter needed to help. It was like Boyfriend Code 101.
“Mourning over an unchangeable event is a waste of energy and takes focus away from more important things,” Danny recited, not taking his eyes off the school yard below.
“Sure makes me feel better though,” Peter joked.
The end of Danny’s mouth twitched into a small smile. “Taking solace in the small things,” he murmured.
Peter nodded grandly, wishing that he had a way to maybe dial back his own grandeur to fall in line with Danny’s. “Beats hiding on a rooftop,” he told him. Then he slapped his own face. “Not that there’s anything wrong with hiding on a rooftop. It’s great.”
Danny tilted his head to look at Peter. “You’ll stay with me?” he sounded uncertain, afraid even.
Peter gave him the softest smile he could muster. “Of course.”
Danny shifted, resting his head on Peter’s shoulder and closing his eyes and the tears finally came.
