There Will Come A Soldier...
She looked out the window below, watching the disorder, the chaos. Members of the kingdom coming from all over had gathered to see this “joyous” occasion. As if you could even call it that. The cheering that rose from the ground to her room hurt her ears, she couldn’t bear to witness this, yet she couldn’t pull her eyes away. With weak she stared out into the sky. It was beautiful, the sun rose high in the sky, brightening the land. It was shockingly beautiful compared to the horrific scene going on down below.
The girl, maybe twenty two summers, could not bare to look but as Uther’s voice rang out across the crowded courtyard she searched for the eyes of the Queen. Seeking to comfort her, in a time of need. Locating her was easy, trying to gain her attention was not. Nor was her maidservant here to help her if she was to try and reach out to the Queen.
Uther’s am raised and swung down, she flinched, she could not look at the blood-soaked ground. She could feel her hair fly round her face as she turned away from the horrific sight, the cheers as the head rolled across the ground were awful. They would haunt her for days. Uther was a horrible man. It could have been her on the chopping block, all because she had been born of something she had no control over.
The girl turned to look out the window once more, only to see the mother of the man yelling at the monster that is Uther. She has threatened to kill Arthur, that can’t be.
She began to feel the panic rise in her throat at the witch’s words. No. Arthur is like a brother to her, she couldn’t lose him because of Uther’s ignorance. She must find a way to stop this. But first she must find Gwen and inform her of her plan (the plan she still needed to figure out) and check on the Queen.
She looed out the window once more, just barely spotting her maidservant moving quickly across the courtyard with a strange looking boy.
Gwen, darling, do hurry. I have something of utmost importance to discuss with you.
She knew she had been heard, even without a response, the joys of mind talk. She had to ask about the strange man that seemed to have been drooling over her Gwen before asking her assistance in saving Arthur.
Almost as if magic, Gwen opened the door and gave her a bright smile, her lavender dress that hugged all the right places and really brings out her beautiful eyes.
“What is it you needed, My Lady.”
Morgana giggled at the way Gwen said her honorific, it was so soft and kind. Like a pet name.
“Oh Gwenhwyfar, I’ve told you before, you needn’t be so formal in my chambers.”
The petite girl turned red before talking again,
“I met the strangest of men today, Morgana, he said he was called Merlin, Gaius is his uncle allegedly. He said he comes from a small village from just over the border.”
Morgana’s eyes brightened at the thought of this, Gaius knew of her magic and had always fought to protect her from Uther and his ways. Whilst trying to guide Arthur to not hating magic, and by extent himself, with the help of Ygraine.
“Do you think he is like us, my love?”
Gwen bit her lip; a nervous habit Morgana had picked up on from their years ago.
“I couldn’t really be sure, but I feel that he is. But it did not feel ordinary, like the amount of power he held was not normal. It made me want to bow at his very presence, despite him being a peasant like me.”
Morgana was confused by this; this was of the utmost confusion and like nothing she had heard of before.
“Perhaps we should sneak out tonight my love and visit The Great Dragon, he may have the answers we need.”
“What if we go to Gaius beforehand, My Lady?”
Morgana hummed in contemplation before nodding her head. Then she turned to her soulmate before speaking.
“We must visit the Queen and discuss what that lady had said about killing Arthur, we can’t have him dying anytime soon.”
“Of course, my dear.”
Morgana smiled before making her way towards the door with Gwen. Like a soldier she will have a plan of action against this woman before acting, and change it in the moment if she had to.
Nothing will hurt her brother, not even Uther and his lies.
