The place fell silent upon hearing this. Garp sighed softly.
He tried to be more present in Luffy's life, but his duty as a Marine prevented him. He was too busy and thus ended up missing almost all of Luffy's childhood.
He knows that Luffy is not alone. He has his brothers, his uncles and his friends who are always there to take care of him. He didn't really need him so he thought it's okay to leave him with them so he can better focus on upholding justice.
(A small part of him regrets it. He regrets not being there with him and choosing justice over his family.
He regrets not being able to see Luffy grow up with his own eyes.
He regrets not being a good grandfather for Luffy after having failed as a father for Dragon.
He regrets so many things that sometimes he would like to send everything to hell and stay with his grandson.
He remembered what Zeref asked him several years ago.
Is justice really worth that much? Is it as worth it as making his son distance himself from him and start a revolution while he barely knows his own grandson well?
He never answered these questions and despite the fact that at least a decade has passed, he is still not able to answer them.)
Garp decided to push those thoughts to the corner of his mind, as he always did, and decided to bring up another topic.
