Another Sleepless Night

*7 August 1898*

It was a rare occurance to have a quiet early night at Baker Street; no thumping noises, no unwanted sounds of lovemaking that were less than private, no strings of utter profanity.

Bill, Phil, and Frank thought that this would be the case when their boss stepped outside for an evening smoke after having an argument with Basil, and they took full advantage of it by having an impromptu sleepover inside Bill’s room upstairs.

But alas, all good things must come to an end because the next thing that any of them knew, there was a crash coming from the living room, followed by the sounds of Basil protesting against something unseen as of late.

Padraic...! Please, that hurts...!

Out of pure concern, the three of them ran downstairs to make sure that Basil was alright...only to find the mouse being pinned down to the coffee table and Ratigan all over him like a disease! But Fidget had a small problem.

“Huh?! Oh, no...where are my ear plugs?!” he cried.

Oyyy...” mumbled Frank as he took his own out of his pants pocket. “Welp...goodnight, mate!”

“Goodnight!” added Phil, who had already inserted his ear plugs at the first sign of trouble.

After they disappeared into their rooms, Fidget kept frantically searching.

“No, wait!” he said, covering his face in utter defeat.

“Here...”

“Hm?”

It was Bill, and he handed Fidget the pair that he owned.

“Take mine,” he said.

“R-Really?” stammered Fidget as his eyes went big and sparkly with gratitude. It made Bill blush for some reason.

“Yes...take them, Fidge!”

“Thank you, Bill! You’re the best friend in the world!” he said, snatching them up without a second thought.

“You’re welcome, mate...”

The huge smile on the little bat’s face was a little bit creepy, to say the least...but also, surprisingly...cute? Bill didn’t plan to dwell on it for too much longer as they went their separate ways.

“AAAAUUGGHHHH!!! Ooohhhhh, PADDY!!!” Basil was screaming from downstairs in a fit of pleasure.

Bill frowned as he lay in bed listening to this. It wasn’t that he was completely naive to sex; he had certainly seen some things happen before being launched out of Wonderland...things like different types of strange people, the white rabbit, various forms of little mice...even the Mad Hatter, for crying out loud! So there wasn’t much that could surprise him at this point.

But his whole environment had changed dramatically since he’d landed in London...so many mean-spirited people. Or in this case, mice; they were prone to all sorts of prejudice towards different types of animals, he himself being a prime example.

He would never forget the day that he first met Phil and Frank; they welcomed him with open arms and always treated him like one of their own, even when he met Ratigan.

It was something that he promised to never take for granted as he lay there finally smiling to himself again.
